JDS was not gunshy against Overeem

I kept reading this that he wouldn't fire his shots off because he was gunshy. I think he just got outclassed.

He couldn't get into range and Overeem took his power shot away from him by switching to southpaw for a majority of the fight. JDS wasn't able to find any opportunity to land his big right hand.

JDS also has a really good jab but Overeem wasn't having it he was parrying everything well and made sure that his kicks were in play at the same time so that he'd score a couple tic tac points at range while JDS chased him around the octagon.

Overeem really gained a lot of ring IQ working at Jackson-Winks and he's worked on his defense and movement. JDS got over anxious after falling behind in the fight and eventually he over extended himself and got KO'd for his troubles.

So to reiterate, it wasn't JDS that was gunshy, he got outclassed and his footwork needs improvement. He also backs into the cage too much against wrestlers which was his problem before. I think Junior's style is a bit outdated I'm not sure what will give his style some life but he's got a tall task against Ben Rothwell who will probably outweigh him by a good margin.

JDS will need to pick his shots wisely but I don't expect him to be gunshy, Ben will be right there in his face so he has a bit of opportunity to showcase his style against someone who will oblige.

I'm picking Big Ben by submission late after a couple of competitive rounds. Nice guy junior is, but he's hit a wall in terms of skill.

Don't even understand why this fight is happening in terms of their past few fights

All due respect but that is just hard to believe.

Dos Santos fought completely timid and doesn't look like the same guy. We saw it in the Miocic fight where he took a lot of punishment and he looked physically different after the long layoff and another surgery.

That was the lowest output we've ever seen from Dos Santos and I don't think we can explain that away. Not throwing punches when you are a puncher is being gun shy.

JDS was outclassed as he is a shell of his former self. An in prime JDS could honestly beat anyone on any night. And i have absolute confidence that the old JDS would massacre even Ubereem. Shame how it turned out.

Hmm interesting. Would have to rewatch. If I remember correctly hé threw 1 flurry to the body that was mostly ineffective.. From first viewing i thought he was a little flustered by overeem's movement and expected him to leave more openings.

Cerebral Reem is a tough fight for anyone, and yeah I agree, his southpaw stance threw JDS off. Reem just kept slipping out of range anytime JDS loaded up his right hand and threatened to counter with his left hand and body kick

look this is no way near as bad as bj's last performance against edgar, but jds did fight pretty badly in the fight with overeem, if it was the jds that had fought with carwin or hunt, it would have been a different outcome.

Dunno how clearer I can explain this. This is not opinion it's fact.

He didn't throw punches because Overeem was making him miss. Overeem has finally learned MMA style defense instead of just standing there and getting countered or covering up like he did in kickboxing where you have bigger gloves to pad yourself. JDS isn't much of a kicker himself while Overeem scored at a distance while avoiding punching range altogether. JDS works a lot off his jab and left hook and he follows up with his over hand a lot but that big home run swing kept missing while Overeem circled to his right.

Finally when Overeem reverted back to his orthodox stance, he got inside the pocket and uncorked a devastating left hook to the frustrated JDS.

Maybe if JDS had more elements to his game it would open up his striking a bit more but as of now, he's too 1 dimensional and has NOT evolved. Stipe froze him up because JDS kept his hands by his waist in order to stop the TD, in turn he got his face pummeled in when he decided to pick his poison and tried to rely on head movement. He's never been the guy to stand toe 2 toe and trade punch for punch with other HWs.

He won't fight timid against Ben because Ben is going to be with him every step of the way, but he's still in danger going up against a completely different style than Overeem's when he steps in the against a 265 lb grizzly bear.

So he did throw punches?

lolol thank you.

I was just thinking - OK - not worth a rebuttal because of the obvious logical fallacy loop but you hit it for me.

TS is just trying way too hard to be articulate and give some kind of EPIC NEVER HEARD OF explanation for a fight.

Mental gymnastics and cringe fucking everywhere.

OK you computer dork I'm trying to help you understand the fight game a lil bit better but sure go ahead and nitpick and 1 sentence I probably didn't articulate correctly.

JDS isn't having a mental lapse where he doesn't want to throw punches and in turn, being called "gunshy" it's because he was swinging and missing wasting his energy and leaving himself exposed for counters. You don't fucking throw punches for the sake of throwing shit without positioning your feet first.

This is sherdog though. Not a great place for fight analysis despite being the largest forum dedicated to MMA.

I just wanna forget about this fight, it sucked. I don't even remember a punch landing in the first round. the combined sigificant strikes was like 14

Outclassed? They both looked fucking terrible in that fight. Overeem just landed first. I was hoping for a double KO for wasting everyone's time.

That's all you can say, I gave my reasoning and supporting evidence and all you can do is talk that bullshit. I put in work at practice in the gym while you exercise your forum fingers hoe

This is the correct answer.

You just attempted to "exercise your forum fingers" and thoroughly embarrassed yourself with your utterly shit thread.

You seem upset.

Dos Santos looked like a shell of his former self and Overeem tries to avoid all exchanges.

JDS is clearly a zombie-washed up form of his former self. He used to be a stone cold killer. Now? Looks like a human punching bag. It's almost the norm to see him get beat to the pulp now. Cain really fucked his life.
