After watching the fight last night, I'm unsure whether to think that JDS has a Fedor-like chin or whether to think that Velasquez just doesn't hit very hard. I would think that JDS has a brick for a chin except for the Cain/Kongo fight, in which once again Cain hit someone hundreds of times on the chin and didn't really hurt them. In the first round JDS was clearly rocked; however, Cain hit him with an overhand right straight on the button (base of the jaw). Anyone taking that kind of hit from a heavyweight SHOULD be KOed... Also, JDS was gassed for 4 entire rounds and Cain couldn't put him away--that and the fact that JDS didn't really feel the need to attempt to block any of Cain's punches. Yes, I realize that JDS had a swollen face, but he did get punched there a few hundred times. And so, does JDS have an iron chin, or does Velasquez hit like a sack of sponges? If anyone wants to make a poll, feel free.
Lol, there is already a thread on this. And if Cain KOing/TKOing 9 out of 11 times in his wins isn't enough for you, I have no clue what to tell you.
I think Cain hits hard as hell. I dont even see why people think he isnt powerful Jds was never rocked before Cain Koed Nog worse than anyone has
You guys are going to drive yourselves insane arguing opinions all day, since we have no benchmark or set in stone correlation to what an "Iron Chin" actually is composed of, or what exactly it means to have "pillow fists". You could spend an eternity saying X has a chin or X has no punching power, but we really don't have solidified contingencies to bounce off. Silly arguments will ensue non the less though...
Well, the only ones I can think of are Nog and Rothwell. Rothwell was a premature stoppage, and rocking Nog these days is hardly a good measure of punching power. Oh, and Brock. Brock was cut from a knee, not a punch, and due to his limited experience he didn't know what to do other than curl up in a ball. But I think that fight supports the argument that Cain lacks power since he hit Brock cleanly with at least a dozen power shots and Brock wasn't really in danger of getting knocked out. His defense just completely sucked.
This is what forums are for--opinions and subjectivity. If something is an absolute fact then there's nothing to discuss, is there?
A "fedor-like" chin? are you serious? Of all the fighters with weak chins you pick the guy who got finished once at the end of his career... and it was a highly arguable stoppage? I'm outta here.
Not sure if everyone is just forgetting, or weren't on these boards then, however prior to UFC 110, Cain was being called pillowfists in every thread.
1st post nailed it. He didn't ko one guy, who happens to be the former champ, and he has pillow fist? I swear sherdog goes full retard after big fights.
Lol to Fedor like chin. He was rocked bad against a japanese journeyman. Also ko'd by a guy that is a natural mw and lost to jake shields. Also Cain has 9 tko/ko's in his 11 wins so he OBVIOUSLY has pillow fist. Also sports science said he had the hardest registered punch ever if you want raw data. Look at JDS' face for his chin too. He has been tagged by guys like CC and Yvel too let alone others. It doesn't have to be one or the other. The guy can still hit hard and the other guy can have a great chin. Like AA vs Sylvia 2.
JDS iron chin obviously. That punch in the first would have knocked most peoples jaw off their face. JDS didnt recover imo, but Ive got mad respect for him taking the beating he took, just like Roy did against him.
I love that Fedor fans still call that stoppage as "iffy" lol. Can you explain to me what MMA school teaches you to get hit on the button blindly then fall completely limp to the floor until the guy on top of you wakes you up with the next punch? I'm just curious is all.
This post nailed it. Also when you get tagged bad enough your cardio goes and your gameplan the rest of the fight. You just go into autopilot mode. Good chance he doesn't remember anything after the first. Cain was obviously the better man that night but jds showed the heart of a lion
