I keep reading people saying That Junior's cardio was terrible and that he gassed after the first round. I saw a guy who got rocked and was in zombie mode for two rounds. Imo Junior looked a lot better and fresher from the 3rd round on even after Cain was all over him for the first two rounds.

    Thought?

Gotta agree with you, it did appear as if his cardio was lacking. But, when that 4th round started he was moving just fine and threw a few, really, nasty punches swinging for the fence. Cain, on the other hand, kept his cardio 99% from start to finish.

Agreed. I don't think it was a 'cardio issue' - more of a 'I just got my brains bashed in' issue.

Yup, he was hurt not gassed. That's why he looked better later on after recovering.

Of course. He got smashed in the jaw and "suddenly gassed". Ever fighter should be able to maintain peak cardio and composure, even after taking a power bomb from Cain Velasquez.

The pace Cain kept through out the fight was insane (especially for a HW) and especially during the first two rounds. Yes Cain evetually got tired but he never stopped working in that fight

Gassing and Damage go hand in hand

It was a combination of both.

It was a gruelling fight for both guys but I thought both lacked cardio

He gassed during round one, not after.
The damage clearly played a hand in it.
He only recovered a bit because Cain gassed too.

To be fair I think it was a combination of everything. Nerves, being rocked, cardio, adrenaline. It's not just one thing.

Also relating to Cain people need to learn there's a big difference between being "tired" and "gassed". Cain got tired, in no way, shape, or form was Cain gassed. That's just stupid talk.

I think this Cardio Freak quotes are a bit over hype. Cain doesn't have super-human cardio trust me, he just composes himself and uses Randy dirt boxing with Nick Diaz power which allows him to just keep chuggin threw.

JDS in first round was probably just never overwhelmed like that in grappling before and Cain gas'd him out quickly with pressure. But people fail to realize is even with Cain's ice cold expression on his face, he still was pretty damn tired.

how does a guy who gasses in the first look fresher from 3rd round on than he did in the first two rounds? When he opponent had yet to slow his pace?

For a Heavyweight he is a cardio freak I can think of a lot of guys in lower wight classes that can keep up the kind of pace that Cain does

That, he was hit sure but he was already a bit gassed at that point, but that's not taking from Cain because he gassed because of the pace Cain set.
