It's been more than a year since Jones fought. We often see that ring rust is a factor for newbs and vets alike. Now, Jones has had big gaps of time between fights before and he's done great... but this has been a very different year off.

Now, my gut tells me that if Jones shows up proper, DC is going to get mauled (beyond the punchers chance, which is real). But what are the chances Jones actually shows up looking rough around the edges?
What's your guess sherdog? Does unbeatable Jones show up, or rusty Jones?

Ring rust is generally an issue for most fighters.

Judging based on Jones's fight against OSP- it's likely that he's not exceptional in this case when it comes to underperforming due to being inactive for so long.

Anyone claiming it's out of the question is just a blind jones nut-hugger.

It very well COULD happen, or Jones may prove to be immune to time off, like he is legal prosecution.

The other side of the ring rust coin is that he has taken no punishment whatsoever in the last year. So he comes in pretty much injury free and hasn't had to do any weight cuts for a year.

Leonard had one fight in five years and none for three before became back and beat Hagler.
Sometimes time off outweighs ring rust.

It could be a factor. DC is a pretty relentless guy. Can't wait to see how Jones reacts.

I hope Jon comes in smashes DC, and really never was on PEDS, but I'm not willing to bet on it. I'm 50/50 on how he's going to look. I root for him because I like seeing greatness, as a person he's a bit too narcissistic for my liking but as a fighter he's probably the greatest of all time

Ring rust coupled with substance abuse does not a good comeback make.

Jones has probably been abusing recreational drugs while racking up wins for his entire career. By his own account, he was definitely coked when he last fought Cormier. It's the loss of his "support" substances that seems more ominous.

Might be biased but I doubt it, Jon had 7 months off of MMA training before he started his camp for UFC 197, and had a late tricky southpaw replacement, the only difference he showed in that fight compared to his other ones was tentativeness, (you'd think he won a controversial split decision if you read the forums) which could be attributed to the short notice opponent. He's also well versed in training for DC, this is like his 5th camp for him and he already went 5 rounds easily last time + stopped powerlifting.

Even if he is slightly rusty I believe he will still beat DC. Jones is a class above

Even though he edged out all the rounds against OSP, he looked slow and predictable in there.

He will just make up for any ring rust with extra eye pokes hahahaha.

He may have been able to perform while abusing various substances. But it's just a matter of time before it gets in the way of your training regimen and the physical repercussions manifest themselves.

How did he look slow? He threw 1 of his best spinning elbows that fight, his kicks were lethal and faster than ever. He was just tentative due to short notice replacement.

Spinning elbows are tricky garbage. Might as have poked him in the eye and called it an accident.

OSP was standing infront of him most the time like a sitting target taking leg kicks. It was a boring fight that I kind of tuned it out of my memory so you maybe right.

50/50 imo

People (me included) expected woodley to have ring rust vs lawler and we saw how that turned out

Against a normal fighter I'd say no.

Against DC yes.
