Strickland got his title shot because he was the only logical choice available on relatively short notice for UFC 293 when Adesanya was committed to fighting on the card & DDP wasn't available to take the fight.

You're asking for UFC to go out of their way to have given Cannonier another title shot off of two wins after a lackluster performance when he challenged for the title & a notable period of inactivity. He's almost 40 years old and doesn't have a particularly notable fanbase, they were never going to go out of their way to give him another title shot until he undeniably earned it with another statement victory. Which the Vettori win wasn't.

Very different scenarios. There's no point going back and litigating how Strickland got his title shot considering he went in there & dominated Adesanya. It's the same idea as continuing to complain about how Umar Nurmagomedov got the Sandhagen fight & glossing over how well he ended up performing against the then #2 ranked guy.

Sean is coming off a loss to dricus, is 4-3 in his last 7 and even his most recent win to earn him this upcoming title fight was a split decision to an irrelevent fighter.

Thank God, now that Cannonier has a recent KO loss he might be able to get a title fight with recent ko losses like Strickland and Izzy did. maybe he should shout some profanities at Dricus and get the fight that way.

I'm not arguing that the UFC operates fairly. I'm arguing that Jared was fucked out of a TS and even if they weren't willing to give him a TS off of Vettori he at LEAST deserved a title eliminator against Rob or Sean, but instead they give PAULO COSTA Rob AND Sean back to back while leaving Jared having to fight down when he shouldn't have had to. Costa hasn't beat anyone relevant in years yet he gets to fight up TWICE, mean while Jared was coming off of 2 top 5 wins and ends up having to fight Imavov who lost to Sean, who Jared just beat not long before that. There's "unfair" and then there's unacceptably unfair. This falls into the unacceptably unfair category. Who cares if Izzy was 2x Champ with 5 defenses? he had already gotten an immediate rematch after losing to Poatan and then dropped the belt again to Sean after winning it back. At that point he belonged at the end of the line, not in front of everyone.

Ehh..I still see it as him getting fucked. The UFC was still going to make Izzy vs DDP before giving anyone else a TS, not to mention Sean was going to be next in line regardless of who won between Izzy and DDP so Jared would have had to wait over a year for his turn or have to take a fight or 2 to stay active in which if he lost, it would have shut the door on his TS opportunity. Politics screwed him more than anything else.
