Average annual salary of a janitor in Las Vegas, Nevada - $26,255.*

Salary of a UFC fighter, assuming he isn't a star, and the average of 2 fights per year**:

10K to show per fight = P20K.*

2,500K Reebok payout per fight = P25K.

Interesting data for an employer worth 3.5 billion dollars, according to Dana White himself.

You will never hear of an athlete competing in the NFL, NBA, NHL or MLB needing to work a side job to make ends meet. And yet, despite the UFC bragging about its being worth billions, typical fighters have to take side jobs or even resort to crowdfunding.

In a true free market, people are paid what their work is worth. Supposedly, fighting in the UFC means fighting in the premier league of MMA. It supposedly means that you are one of the best fighters in the world. Do any of you honestly believe that an ordinary janitor is worth more than a fighter in the top league of a global sport?

Why should you, the MMA fan care? If you are a true fan, you want MMA to have better pay, to attract the best athletes in the world so that they can dedicate their lives to the sport.

*Not counting 10K to win as that is entirely contingent, unlike a janitor's guaranteed salary.

** The fighter's time competing inside the cage is not the only time he is working. I can't believe how some people don't get this yet. Training MMA is a year-round endeavor, including grappling, wrestling, striking, conditioning and strength training. Getting ready to fight is a utterly grueling full-time job in itself, that 99% of we lard-asses would wilt under.

Taking away outside sponsors from the fighters is absolutely ridiculous, plus the new fight gear is boring as fuck.

yeah but Janitors work really hard 6 days a week, its a hard boring life. they deserved to be paid much more than fighters who show up for a few minutes maybe 3 times a year to hit each other. should be the least paid job in the world if this was a fair world.

Isn't it 10k to show 10k to win?

Insert my answer above. We're talking guaranteed salary, not contingent pay that entirely depends on whether you avoid getting your face beaten in more than the other guy.

I'd say, on average, a fighter fights 3 times a year.

aren't the janitors employed by the casinos? they aren't exactly short of money themselves.

I agree with your implied argument. Janitors bust their asses doing tedious labor that most anyone would find unenjoyable and should definitely be paid more.

Oh fucking well.

Don't like the pay, find a better paying job.

No one's holding a gun to anyone's head to become a fighter.

Yep, because fighters don't go to the gym or do anything the entire year while waiting for the fights, they just lace up the gloves and show up.

These kind of guys get more money than ever. Actually ten times more than few years ago, and also they get an injury insurance. In Bellator they would get 1K only. They should be happy to fight on the same event with best fighters in the world.

a full time janitor should make more than a part time tomato can fighter

When trying to do an apples to apples comparison, it's a good idea to pay attention to what you are comparing. First, you pull up data for the AVERAGE annual salary of a janitor. $25k per year is not what the AVERAGE UFC fighter makes.

Well that didn't take long. Post was up less than 30 minutes and already we have about 5 UFC shills responding. I hope Dana is at least paying you extra for this.

James harden is being offered $200 million for 13 years sponsorship with Adidas

Basically one basketball player is being offered more than the entire ufc

So you're talking about he lowest rung guy that can't win is that right? He won't be a UFC fighter for long.

This is what the market pays for cage fighters. No person needs to be a cage fighter, but if that's what they choose, UFC offers the best pay and greatest opportunities in that industry.
