(UPI) -- A janitor who found $325 million worth of gold bars in a garbage bin at a South Korean airport might be allowed to keep the precious metal, police said.

The janitor wwill still receive 5-20 percent of the gold's value if the owner comes forward, police said.

The seven gold bars were found April 26 in a trash can at Incheon International Airport in Seoul.

Investigators said the gold bars are believed to have been ditched by two men who were transporting the bullion from Hong Kong to Japan. The men are believed to have abandoned the gold because they were worried about being searched by customs.

Police said the owner must come forward to claim the gold, or else the $325 million worth of precious metal will become property of the janitor who found it under the country's finders-keepers law.

I doubt whomever abandoned $325 million will be coming back - most likely because they're dead for failing their mission. If if they did, he gets to keep 5% which is still $16.25 million.

Win one for the good, hard working, janitor !

That janitor just became a marked man.

Exactly what I was thinking. This ain't like getting a card with cash in it from your aunt for your birthday. He takes any of that gold and I think we're going to see some No Country for Old Men shit ensue.

The story has the value screwed up. It apparently is only worth $325,000 USD as it was 7 - 1 kilogram bars. 7 - 12.4 kilogram bars that banks trade would be 86.8 kilograms or 191 pounds. Not much chance of smuggling that much in and it would be difficult to transfer to a trash can. 7 kilograms would be 15 pounds. Someone else was probably supposed to pick it up.

I know they smuggle drugs and cell phones into jails and prisons via the garbage. Visitors will bring in fast food in bags with things hidden in the food or drink cups. They also bring children in and change diapers leaving contraband in the diapers. They put it in the garbage when they get in the prison. Trustees empty the garbage and collect the contraband.
