James Toney's destruction of Evander Holyfield

I would favor the juiced-up Toney that showed up against Holyfield against Wlad. I can't imagine the robotic style of Wlad working against this version of Toney.

Robotic style doesn't change the fact that he was a great athlete. Toney wouldn't be a threat to him at any point during the fight.... It could be a 12 round borefest like Wladimir vs Ibragimov... Toney doesn't get past the jab, but at the same time manages to evade the jab, which nullifies Wlads right hand... So not a lot of action.

Toney, despite his craftiness, didn't have the horsepower like Mike Tyson among other athletic attributes to get inside and do work.

But remember, the opinion you should follow should be your own. Just consider this to be a second opinion from a complete stranger online.

Toney was the man. Imagine what he could've done with the work ethic of someone like Evander. He would've been unstoppable

True but I've heard it said Zab would have exceeded Floyd if he had the dedication. Being a savant is needed to reach the very top imo.

Wasn't Holyfield at or close to his best though.

Cruiserweight Holyfield (1988) vs. cruiserweight Toney (1999) would be interesting.

Wasn’t this out of shape James Toney with dreadlocks...yeah Holyfield would’ve killed him. Toney was my favorite fighter but I know what an disinterested out of shape James Toney is capable of...he should’ve lost a decision to Dave Tiberi in a fight that no sportsbook would even take wagers on.

Toney should've retired after this fight or the Ruiz fight.

I loved this this fight because it showed what Holyfield was capable of against some that was slick enough to avoid his headbutting. Holyfield had nothing for Toney.

James Toney is one of my favorite fighters ever, but Holyfield was well past his prime here. That's what this fight showed. He was 2-3-1 in his last six fights up to then. He went 4-4 in his next 8 fights.

By casuals, maybe. I don't know of any boxing fan who underrates Toney.
When Toney fought Couture, I never heard of Toney until that time as I didn't follow boxing at the time. I thought that he was just some bum. But then a friend of mine who's been following and training boxing forever "educated me".

Good friend. Toney is one of the all-time greats. From a pure talent standpoint, there were few better. Toney's biggest weakness was diet and lack of discipline.
