James Toney Video

he definitely got hit. his chin was superb, though. he would pull his head back from punches or dance out of the way, but he didn't have 'traditionally' solid defense. Similar to RJJ in that regard.

come on dude
watch his fights again

I've watched them plenty. He was very talented, but his defense wasn't exactly orthodox. He got tagged enough. Especially as he aged. There was an interview with B-hop a while back where he was asked why RJJ hasn't aged as well as him. His response was that RJJ, great as he was, relied a lot on reflexes and athleticism, which fade with age whereas he (B-hop), always had strong fundamentals.

That's what happens when you start going toe to toe with the heavyweights.

Toneys one of my favorites

Cassius Clay did. Watch Clay/Liston 1 and look at his head movement, dude.

Again his natural ability. He couldn't do it as well when he got older. If he had good defense when he was younger there is no reason why it should diminish when he gets older, at least not as fast.

James Toney didn't begin having speech issues much later into his career. Really awesome fighter. Ali's game changed later in his career pretty much more trash talking and a mean freaking jab.

Why are you surprised? He's been a slobbering, incoherent mess for about eight years now.
