Much better than the original Jaco Rash Guard!
A bit of an introduction. I bought the very first Jaco Rash Guard that was exclusive to Title MMA. This was one of the worst rash guards/training tops I have ever purchased. After the first training session and first wash the shirt looked a mess. It looked like it had aged about 5 years! By this I mean the colour looked washed out, the logos had faded totally and the fit had gone from a good loose fit to a disjointed mess. Also it wrinkled and creased very badly and no one wants to have to iron a training top to be able to look presentable (Some may disagree but I don’t want to look a mess before I even start to train)
After dealing with the Jaco customer service (Which is by far the best customer service I have ever dealt with in any field) the looked after me. So when they released their new version I was keen to give them another go.
Construction
The material is a bamboo blend and feels just like a soft t-shirt. Some may dislike this compared to the normal materials used in rash guards but I quite like the feel. Its light and soft on the skin. The first lot of good news is the newer material Jaco have used. After numerous training session and washes the fabric whilst broken in still has the same colour and the cut has stayed the same so this is a big improvement. However on the back and front the logos have already started to fade. This is down to the rigours of training and the type of printing that has been used which is a real shame. I am not a “Labels” guy but I want my items I buy to hold up longer than this.
The stitching on all the different panels has held up really well even after someone went “Gi” on me and grabbed the top’s neck to help break my posture. No loose threads and is of a very high quality.
The bottom section also has two hidden pockets for your gum shield or mp3 player if you are on a jog (Will not fit iPhone size players but will be perfect for nano sized players).
Fit & In Action
This is more like a t-shirt fit so if you want a “Second Skin” style rash guard I would stay away from this. If however you prefer a looser fit this will suit you really well. I ordered a medium and it fits my upper body perfectly and leaves a loose fit around the midsection but not so loose that it gets caught when grappling in scrambles etc. so if you have a bit of a large “Six pack” or have just had a holiday and don’t want to show the world your barrel then maybe think about getting this
Due to the type of material used when you have been training for a good couple of hours the top will be drenched in your (And your partners) sweat. This does not dry like say a normal spandex based rash guard so if you don’t like that sweaty feeling again this may not be the rash guard for you. However having said that you never feel weighed down or like your skin can’t breathe.
Pros
+Massive improvement in the material.
+Nice cut if you are looking for a looser fitting rash guard.
Cons
-Logos need improving as they have already started to fade.
-Stays wet during heavy training sessions
Summary
Comparing the two versions Jaco have improved the rash guard by a massive margin. Even so there is still a bit of a way to go before they perfect it however its nice to see a company trying to innovate and not just come out with the same old stuff just with their own logo on it.
The cut is great its just the material needs a bit of work to not hold so much moisture.
