Jacare should have won that fight vs Gastellum.

There are so many misguided thoughts here its too much to unpack. I'll start simply with Barnett.

DC wrestled 184lbs as a 5th year senior in college. He was a fat - literally fat - heavyweight, with only 9 career fights in MMA, when he casually RAN OVER Josh with complete impunity.

DC is now old, but as a young man he was an elite athlete, runner up All American out of OSU and two time Olympian. He could smash a world class veteran like Josh because the athleticism gap between them is cartoonish.

There are literally thousands of guys like DC that can smash Josh, they aren't interested in MMA because the pay is so bad. We crown 8 other All American heavyweights in Division I NCAA each year. They don't enter MMA because the pay sucks.

If you think there are thousands of guys who can beat Josh Barnett in a fight, you are sadly misguided lol.

DC was an All-American out of OSU over a decade ago. We crown 8 new All-American Division I wrestlers at heavyweight every year. DC wrestled - I shit you not - 184lbs.

There are an enormous amount of elite athletes with very well credentialed grappling skills in the USA alone, let alone the world, who are far better athletes than any version of Josh Barnett. That is why DC could literally throw him over his head, despite only having 9 fights experience, and being grossly undersized.

If elite athletes ever entered heavyweight MMA, they would run roughshod over Josh, just like DC did. You would be shocked to know how many Division I All American heavyweights are teaching high school gym for 45k and benefits. Thats how bad the risk -vs- reward pay is in MMA.

If what you were saying were true, then why would anyone play football? The NFL doesn't guarantee contracts and the average career length is 3 years. Sure we hear about the stars making a lot, but John Doe who makes $500K for a year or two then gets cut, is SOL. $1 million is garbage money for the rest of your life not to mention the head trauma that comes with it.

I think MMA has plenty of elite athletes. It's just American like to think only basketball and football players are athletes, wonder why.....

damn brah ... how do you not see

Bruh, please see the second round again if possible. Jacare was landing the better shots before the knock down. Jacare was backing up and looked tired, but was landing whenever he surged. there was a minute and a half where he got knocked down and was surviving, but Jacare was blasting him with hard shots in the last minute of the 2nd round. 3-4 hard left hooks landed - Gastellum has a god like chin.Similar shots rocked Mousasi.

Its Kelvin's round, but no way can you score that a 10-8.

Yeah I agree it was not a 10-8. All I said was, to me, round 2 looked closer to a 10-8 than round 1 did, although none deserved to be scored that way.

I almost am starting to feel bad for Jacare even tho he's making good money and doing what he loves every time he's on the verge of a title shot or in a title shot eliminator he loses

Just a real good fighter and good everywhere for a specialist. He'd be an interesting champ, and I think a lot of American fans know who he is and like him

Now Kelvin got the win and it's back to square one

I thought Jacare won too but if was a close fight and not decisive for either guy so fuck it

this fight is a prime example of how fans scrutinize fight results.

Jacare outstruck his opponent and lost. most seem to agree he lost rightfully so, some don't. all agree it could have gone either way. it was a virtual tie.

but because fighter A got the nod, people are over-exaggerating his greatness. and because fighter B didn't, people are under-exaggerating his.

it happens every few years. Machida v Rampage was probably the worse.

EDIT: of course the winner should get a title shot before the loser. that's only logical. but when it comes to rankings or overall skill, they're both still about #4 and #5. maybe they swapped positions. at best.

It was a close fight, but the last 2 rounds I had for Gastelum because it looked like Jacare was fighting to survive where Kelvin was fighting to finish.

Jacare won.

Kelvin is lucky as fuck and looks like a total amateur in round 1. Reminds me of Homer Simpson going into boxing in that Simpson's episode.

It will be a total disaster if he wins a title. You can call it a nadir era in MMA.
