So I started watching it and I'm now on episode 4

It's pretty good so far but not even close to the best series HBO has ever done and I think the main reason for it is the shit tier actors that they got to play these characters.

Holy fuck talk about miscasting roles

The dude from Office Space is a captain
    [IMG]

We got another B-level TV show actor here in Donnie Wahlberg
    [IMG]

We got Kirk Acevedo who I could swear was in the first Mighty Ducks film
    [IMG]

We got Scott Grimes who is a terrible actor on The Orville
    [IMG]

We got Ross from Friends as some sort of super evil douche drill instructor

Why did they feel the need to cast these dorks and pretend they are some badass soldiers? It wouldn't be so bad if some of these people were good at acting but they are not. Tom Hanks is a dork but we believed him to be a badass in Saving Private Ryan, because that's what good actors like Tom Hanks do. These assholes in Band of Brothers are terrible and it pulls me out of the show consistently

Generally speaking, I get where you're coming from. Comedy actors trying to be all serious is kind of cringe. Steve Carell in Foxcatcher, for example - I couldn't take him seriously at all. It was laughable. But it worked for me here cause they came off more like normal guys put into a serious situation. Military in general seems to attract folks of various personalities and walks of life, funniest fuckers I know are in the military. I also know very little about "Friends", and have only seen Schwimmer in "Big Nothing" and he was good there as well. A comedic flick, but he played a real person and not a goof.

And Office Space guy looks like a buddy of mine - even sounds and acts similar, so I've never minded the actor in anything I've seen him in.

Ross played an incompetent laughing stock and Office Space guy was an alcoholic who didn't see any action that I can remember in the first few episodes, they weren't all 'badasses' so I don't know why that would take you out of it?

In real life not all action heroes look like The Rock and you don't need to act on the level of Daniel Day Lewis to play a convincing tough guy.

Sounds like you already made up your mind going in. Try watching the entire series and then give your feedback.

I haven't watched it in a very long time but I'm pretty sure this holds up today as a classic.

Nobody should've had to take on those roles for real. It's actually perfect that the actors don't fit the roles either.

Ballsy thread. You're going to get first degree burns reading these responses.

    Great show and casting.

I get what TS is saying. But this show wasn't effected. Bad casting can ruin things...Like Cameron Diaz in Gangs of New York, or Hayden Christianson in Star Wars.

Fassbender and Hardy wanted to give the other guys the shining light.

I thought that they played their roles fine.

Not sure what TS’s problem is.

    Overall such an amazing show.

    No issues with the casting.

Sorry TS if you can't enjoy this series, I can't help you.

Exactly. The only surprises for me in that series were Schwimmer and Wahlberg, both of whom I thought were great in it.

Except for the part where Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny play a German tank crew. That part was a bit weird.

Moreover, not every soldier is a badass. Most are just normal people who may end up stuck in situations that can bring out their flaws. The part I enjoyed most about this show is how they depicted normal dudes in a war zone. Winters is the most badass character in the show, and he still had to win their respect because he came off like such a stick in the mud.

Well the voting results are what I hoped/expected them to be.

BoB was some of the best TV ever created.
