Time after time, a fighter begins to rise in the UFC and gain hype. Eventually, they lose.
THEN come the threads where everyone begins to point out that they didn't really have any notable wins, and that we were all blinded by the hype and they knew it the whole time.

So let's take this time right now to think about Khabib's wins, and if the hype is deserved.

IMO He's legit and the RDA win should have shut everyone up, seeing as RDA just knocked Bendo into outer space.

Doubters come forth, and attempt to pass judgement on The Eagle!
(No fighter bashing pls.)

No doubt on my side . Khabib is the real deal the "hype" is all warranted . He has a style and strength that is very hard to deal with . When he gets his title shot I for one will be betting huge on the eagle because he will be able to manhandle anyone put in front of him. Haters only hate because most of the time they don't want to face the truth imo . People will always find an excuse tho it's human nature but fact is no one gets to 22-0 with out skill heart and a fight style very few can deal with.

He's good at what he does, but overall I find his style boring and hope to see him get knocked out badly.

MOST agree he's champion material. I don't know what you're talking about.

Win over RDA is very legit. But matchups make fights and if RDA has one knock it is his defensive wrestling. Just because he beat RDA doesn't mean he beats Bendo.

No one really doubts his wins, he's just boring and it frustrates some people that he gets a free pass to be boring but others don't.

This. Danny Castillo got hammered for being inactive on the ground. The logic was that he used 0 ground and pound. He landed 25 strikes on the ground, which Khabib has had 3 fights where he's landed less.

Fitch was hammered for not finishing, he averaged 3 times the significant strikes as Khabib, but let's just blow Khabib because he's Russian right?

If RDA would have fought Bendo first, and THEN gotten ragdolled by Khabib, less people would be saying stupid shit most likely. Somehow reversing the order the events made people more short-sighted. Oh well, it's not like any of their worthless opinions matter. Khabib is the best lightweight at the moment and only a moron would think otherwise.

I don't think he will grab the belt and be GOAT, but I see him entertaining for years to come and compiling a great record losing only to a few champions and formers.

Someone posted a youtube of him wrestling a bear cub... so right away most meathead mma fans are all over his nuts.

Khabib's entire skillset is overrated. Jon Fitch was just as dominant before fighting for the title and had the same number of finishes. But since he's American, he's a boring, lay and pray, one-dimensional wrestler.

In turn, Khabib's wrestling is the greatest in the UFC, his striking resembles Fedor, and don't forget, he could stand with the entire lightweight division if he had to.

I think he gets worked by a competent wrestler who can force him to strike. People will say "No one can force him to strike", because they cannot see through their own love for the guy but Tibau already did... Tibau is a good wrestler, but not the best at LW.

What you fail to realize is that we are more than 2 years past the Tibau fight, and in that time span Khabib has been training with Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier. And besides, no one that has striking dangerous enough to threaten Khabib has the TDD required to work it.

After seeing Khabib go fucking apeshit like a monkey with a coconut on Thiago Tavares' head I don't see how anyone can complain about him being like Fitch or Shields, he's fucking savage and the people who started paying attention too late aren't seeing that his aggressiveness is always a second away from getting through, but if you risk losing position obviously a good fighter will secure it first.

All I see is hate when these keyboard warriors whine about his grappling stifling the opponent, they- the opponent are the ones hugging him close instead of working to get back up after they saw what kind of close-range momentum Khabib is capable of generating.

I'm excited as fuck for each of his fights.

That is precisely what I am talking about. No one is invincible, and TDD can be worked on just like Khabib's wrestling. MMA has shown us in the past that wrestlers can be stopped, that is why many wrestlers tend to move towards striking (Mendes, Koscheck, Hendricks, ETC). No one has the end all be all wrestling. The best wrestler ever in the sport was Georges, and even he was stuffed at times.

Before you say "Khabib is better than Georges" realize he already gets stuffed a sufficient amount of times. Khabib's TD accuracy hovers at less than 50%. If a fighter like Pettis can stuff one or two TDs, which happens, they can easily make him pay and finish the fight.

You are right that Khabib has improved, but his striking looks as wide-open and awkward as ever. The fact that he charges people with wreck-less abandon will not always go in his favor against how dangerous LWs are.

I'm not a huge fan but I don't know if anyone can beat him but if I had to pick, I'd say pettis, cerrone and possibly Eddie beat him. Oh and I'd watch him rag doll Abel a million more times if I could

I am all for grappling. While my preference to watch is striking, I respect wrestlers and what they do. As a matter of fact, I wish MMA didn't have stand ups. I think if a guy pins you and you can't get up, tough shit.

What I am against is people with double standards. Derrick Brunson, Castillo, Fitch, Okami, are all boring as hell yet somehow Khabib isnt? They ALL have just as many or more finishes than him. If you hate guys who control the other fighter, hate them, but at least be consistent. There is no need to act like just because he's russian somehow his shit is different.

Not directed at you BTW.

Benson never was that good, struggled with 135 Edgar (he actually won the second fight), actually lost against Thomson andMelendez, was losing against Khabilov.

RDA stoppage against Bendo was too soon.

Pat Healy it's too old and smokes too much weed.

Gelson Tibau is just a journeyman

Abel Trujillo and Thiago Tavares are nobodies. Top 50 lightweights at best.

Easy job.

It wasn't until after many years and knee surgery that anyone had an answer for GSP's wrestling.

And you're underrating Khabib's wrestling. Sure, someone can come along and stop it, but from what I'm seeing now, no one has the TDD to stop him. Sharpening his wrestling skills with MMA's best wrestler (Cormier) can only refine that and make him more dangerous.

His striking doesn't look pretty sure, but he has never been in trouble on the feet, like ever. Even against RDA, he stood with him and had zero issues whereas Benson got finished in under a round. Khabib's striking isn't the most polished but he makes up for A LOT with his speed, athleticism, and head movement.

I respectfully disagree. I don't care who you train with I don't think you can say a guy will not have his TDs stopped. Lighweight has some of the most talented, fast and athletic guys as well. I think many of them will start training for him early and stuff him.

It is nothing against Khabib, I don't think any guy that relies solely on wrestling will be unbeatable.

There was a time when Chael's double-leg was unstoppable but after a while strikers like Anderson and Bisping were stuffing him.

Not directed at me? Then don't quote me you halfwit. If you can't see the difference between post-titleshot fitch and khabib then I really don't know what to say, Khabib to me clearly looks like he's looking for the finish and with definite urgency I might add, you scrambling to make up a retarded reason like his nationality and repeating your point about how many fights on their record have led to a finish tells me you've never even watched Khabib fight, or did it while heavily rooting for his opponents.
