Not being allowed to weigh more than one weight class above your actual weight class on fight day seems like a reasonable and moderate restriction.

    Arkansas is leading the charge?

Unexpected, and I absolutely love it.

I like the rule, but I also see some dummy trying to game it and ending up in the cage dehydrated by not properly rehydrating. It's unlikely, but some knucklehead might attempt it when they realize they are going to violate the one weight class above rule.

Been saying between 8-10% for years. Tried to implement it at Tuff-N-Uff, but the politics was too strong against it. Glad it's starting to become a legitimate thing.

Definitely interested in seeing how this turns out. As long as fighters don't go in still dehydrated and as long as a lot of fights don't get canceled this could be a good way to don't. The body % was a thing I had figured would work best for determining how much weight guys can cut.

I don't know the amount Conor is cutting, but I'm guessing we won't see him on an AR or CA card. Along with many others. It would definitely force many up one weight class if it were enforced globally.

The California approach seems more safe and effective potentially: have doctors annually determine a fighter's safe weight. Of course there will be a ton of debate as to how to determine that.

The idea of weighing fighters on fight day brings up the question: at what point on the day would they be weighed? I predict plenty of dudes will be missing weight on fight day, while others will be trying to rehydrate after their fight day weigh in. More hoops to jump through ain't gonna make for healthier weight cutting practices. And that's coming from someone who has cut weight before. The only thought in most competitors mind is how to win the fight, not what's most healthy. Some people unfortunately feel like it shows toughness to cut weight in unhealthy ways, so fight-day weigh ins just give them another chance to show how "badass" they are.

To make it work, they have to. Otherwise, it's an awful policy.

With amateurs, this won't be a big problem. Standing firm and barring a big name pro will be tough, but necessary.

Can't wait until title fights are called off on an hours notice. You bought expensive tickets? Who gives a fuck.

This rule is not needed, there's nothing wrong with the system in place. Just requires personal responsibility, something people don't like to hear these days.

I only said it's unlikely because I can't see many fighters even fathom the idea of entering the ring dehydrated. Killing themselves to make weight the day prior is one thing, they have 24 hrs to rehydrate. Entering the ring that way would likely be guaranteeing a loss, or worse. I'm not saying it will never happen, I just don't think it will be as prominent as might be imagined. But I could be underestimating them.
