That is like 800 million bits per second. It would take a human years to read that.
I dunno about all tbay
I got 10 or 25 MB right now. I am living in a third world country for the moment though and trading futures contracts. I am doing it cause rent here is cheap
And yet my connection still blows. That’s optimum online for you.
I remember when we had 3 mbps, I thought it was super fucking fast.
Way before that I remember it used to take forever just to load a single picture.
now we have one of the lower tiers with spectrum at 100 mbps which is plenty fast for me.
I think I have 100 Mb which means my actual downloads are around 11 MBps
Well, porn is in 4k now brah, wtf you expect!?
I still miss that gurgling grinding sound of the dial up connection though.
Don't miss having to get off the net so my mom could call my nan in Spain though.
Just think how long it'd take a porn star to read 800 million bits.....
I have seen mine hit 899. Subsequently I have also seen it as low as 40. I get throttled like a mofo lol.
Before moving to Arizona, I had Spectrum back in New York & although I was paying for their 100 Mbps speed, I'm convinced that I was getting significantly less because my webpages would often load slowly & my streaming would occasionally buffer. Now that I'm in Arizona though I've got Centurylink via a fiber gigabit that gets speeds up to 940 Mbps & it's amazing. I don't know how I lived without it before.
I work for an ISP - we have 100Gbps backbone links. 400Gbps is becoming quite common too
It’s hard to even imagine just how fast signals are being sent to achieve these sorts of speeds
For 99% of the population as long as they can get Netflix over WiFi they don’t give a shit what’s going on underneath
I was running fiber from LA to Las Vegas in 05 and we would joke when testing the lines about how one day that shit would be in homes. Thats now a reality. What an amazing age we live in.
Are you streaming in 8k? Jesus man.
No. I wish. LOL. It's only like $15 or $20 per month more than their standard internet & I need it to be super reliable because I work from my computer at home so it's definitely worth it.
When i started grad school, the entire university was connected to the UUnet back bone by 56k modem. A few months later they actually made it a coax T1 line -- LOL. this is all before mosaic was even in the hands of users.
I also remember when they started banning alt.binaries.erotica.* newsgroups because the hit 70MB of news downloads per day to the main university server (a PDP-8 at the time).
The school i did ugrad at was on the early ARPAnet backbone built for/by the US military. the basement of the university library was built as a nuclear bunker by the military. there were only 20,000 nodes in the internet (IP addresses) when I started 1st yr university.
Ironically, I did a post doc at a school that was one of the first 4 nodes of ARPAnet.
I remember taking hours to download a song and days to download a 10 minute porno. And if someone picked up the phone, you were fucked.
I remember downloading an album at night and by time I get home from school the next day it would be finished . Just hope there wasn't an error on one song
Dafuq am I supposed to do with that?
