Where would you rank his striking compared to guys in the top ten? His striking against volk was pretty impressive and he's definitely better than khabib but how about guys like Dustin, Justin, fiziev etc.

I think Islam would be way less inclined to entertain extended stand up periods with much taller bigger stand up phenoms in dustin and fiziev. Although he might with Gaethje where Justin likes to throw wild hooks and uppercuts which could be timed well with Islams good straights. But polished guys like Dustin and Fiziev is asking for trouble giving them too much room to breath. Especially with Dustin where he's shown he can struggle at times with phenom power grapplers so there's already an avenue for victory apparent.

He has the wrestling threat and just fought a guy half his size.
Pretty good timing on that left hand and a solid left kick.
Otherwise average.
Check out Wonderboy's analysis about his striking

It's all his other tools that help make his striking better than it probably is. Which is like for so many fighters

Islam's stand up has been crafted to blend into takedowns and transitions. You can't kickbox him without maybe having to wrestle him a second later. That's what makes it so effective. The threat of a TD, mount, and RNC is as readily available as a hook or straight cross at any given time. If it was purely a striking match, I'm sure all the men listed above would have a higher chance of lighting him up.
That's why it's funny when Sherbruhs are pissed off that Volk "didn't fight Islam like he fought Max!"

He's good, great counter punching, looked incredible vs Olives but struggled when the shorter Volk got inside on him and smothered his own punches. Think he chews up most of the other LW's standing and if not he takes em down and strangles them

His stand up is garbage and being over rated because it’s the flavour of the month. He was flailing wildly vs Charles

He's not just a great counterstriker...hes almost only a counter striker. He can't throw in combination very well, when guys close the distance he's quite hittable (doesn't move his head or feet well), gest flustered and tends to rely on clinching and grappling to defuse it. His great defense and strike accuracy is reliant a lot on having such a low output and forcing his opponents to always act first when they're already timid over the threat of being taken down.

Vs Volk in particular who by the way has had reach listed at 64in, 66in, 69in, 70in, 71in and 71.5in over the years (kinda doubt his reach is actually longer than Islams). Volk looked much shorter and not long, he couldn't get the jab going and had to forego it altogether relying on leaping and blitzing himself into range due to the height and length disadvantage which played right into Islam's striking style and physical advantages. Islam isn't pillow fisted by any means but he isn't a big hitter, being naturally a 10-20lb bigger man really helps make you seem like you hit hard vs Alex who isn't a particular hitter to begin with.

I've seen nothing from Islam's striking to make me think he's going to outclass Dariush standing who's also a southpaw, every bit as fast and hits and kicks a lot harder. Beneil is chinny though and can get wild but I think he can be a serious handful for Islam. Same for Fiziev if he can stop some takedowns, Islam won't have a ton for him standing. A guy like Jalin with his length and power will force Islam to spam takedowns, even Damir or Guram are clearly better strikers. It's Islam's complete game that makes it look so strong.

Generally 6 inches and 5-10 pounds when the baseline is 70 inches and 175 pounds isn't considered half. Wait, that's not true, it's NEVER considered half.
And, more generally, using bullshit to exaggerate and pretend like you're uninterested....well, then no need to write bullshit or even reply right? So, you're interested enough we know that.

As far the WB video, IMO it's complete ass. I completely disagree with WB's points. I've posted it like 3-5 diff times in the lead up to the fight. Islam throwing combinations off the backfoot is terrible for him - he gets long, loopy, and undisciplined. He just seems like he robotically knows that he's supposed to be throwing but there is no savvy or actual acumen it's just what he's been trained to do. Wonderboy somehow found this to be the best part of his striking? Nah, fade that.

His kicks and clinch striking ranges from an A- to an A; far above average, powerful, and borderline elite for the division. His distance striking, as I mentioned above, has some large flaws but you have to get him moving straight back or straight forward to expose them.

Wonderboy’s analysis is very flawed, overly focused on technique not enough focus on functionality. Islam has better (more effective) striking than most top LWs because of his incredibly high fight IQ and his ability to integrate it with the full mma arsenal. Not to mention his defense.
