While I believe Islam "out-pointed" Volkanovski, I believe Alex proved to be the better fighter, pound-for-pound.

In any fight where the bigger man struggles with the smaller man, the smaller man is the better fighter pound-for-pound. In other words, had their sizes been reversed, Islam wouldn't have made it to the end of the fight.

I will be surprised if the rankings change. I fully expect Alex Volkanovski to remain the #1 Fighter, pound-for-pound.

Makhachev looked frail, beaten, and "lost" at the end of the fight – while Volkanovski looked rallied, strong, and determined at the end of the fight.

Pound-for-pound, Alexander Volkanovski is the better man, although Islam Makhachev got the "points win."

As a fighter, Volkanovski is going to bring even more fear into his Featherweight division, while Makhachev is going to have the other fighters in his division licking their chops.

That's my take.

Fair take. Islam was in trouble in the 5th and looked like he was fading badly:

Alex stock definitely went up
As for Islam, he did beat the number 1 fighter in the world, and added another legend to his resume, but at the same time the aura of invincibility is gone. He'll probably smash his next few opponents and everyone will forget about his not so dominant performance against the smaller man

His size was a huge advantage for Volkanovski.
He weighed in at 155. The same weight as Islam. I don’t think Islam gained much weight. I think he is around 168 in the cage.
Volkanovski is around 165 in the cage.
Volkanovski had an advantage in size for wrestling.

let’s be real. Have you seen Volkanovski at weigh in at feitherweight. It looks like Conor McGregor at 145. I don’t but this ‘small’ excuse.
he is big. He is only short. Short doesn’t equal small.
The legs of Volkanovski are twice the legs of Islam.

A good thing you don't apply this logic when it comes to Pereira/Adesanya because this is a shit take. Volk had all the tools to win that fight but chose to showboat until it was too late. Losing a fight regardless of earlier success means you were not the better fighter that night. Period.

Actually this erroneously judged resuky harmed Volk more than anything. He won or at the very least drew but he got an unfair L.

I don’t think you know how to read stocks.

Islam is now #1 P4P, Volk is now behind him.
Shut your troll ass up. Your caveboy buttbuddy got his ass kicked by a 145er. That's the only statement he made.

He spazzed out the last two minutes of a fight he was clearly losing, idk why the Sherdog echochamber is losing sleep over this lol.

This was literally Aldo vs Hominick all over again.

Go outside and get some sun buddy, you’ll feel better.

This is why Islam shouldn't have taken this fight. With a win he loses stock. He really had to dominate him for it to mean anything. I think it's safe to say he's about half of Khabib in terms of grappling. His striking might be better but I'm under the belief that Khabib's striking is underrated he just never had to use it.

Well heres the thing people have been talking up islams aura, but really his only top win is charles. Then he fights a significantly smaller incredibly good fighter and arguably loses.

I think everyone in the LW division has a smile on their face. He is very beatable and is cardio is not very good.

It wasn't though, and Islam very clearly won the five rounder. Ifs, ands, and buts just don't cut it...
but they tell a story.

Story is, Volk could keep fighting. islam could not.

Was a close fight with Volk finishing on top. My point still stands. You can try and spin it how ever you like, doesn't change facts.

Islam stock only went down because expectations were so high he could’ve only improved his stock with a lopsided stoppage. Islam went into a hostile arena and took on the #1 P4P fighter in the sport, had his greatest strength pretty much nullified, and STILL won. That’s impressive imo. Fans won’t see it that way, but it is.

Islam is now #1 P4P, Volk is now behind him.

Volk had a superstar making gutsy performance, Islam wilted at the end.

Who cares what the fake rankings say? Volk will pull a big number next fight in all likelihood and more money for him. That's stocks bro.
