If USA government makes loud noises that they want Assad removed ,you can pretty much guarantee its because Israel want it. They want all hostile regimes taken out and be surrounded by Egypt style regimes who support them. But now all these terror groups are filling the power vacuum when a dictator is taken out.

Hes been a major supporter of hezbollah for years as well as major iranian ally on top of a constant enemy ..hes actualy one of their worst enemies there.
By assisting the rebels they are helping remove an enemy and hurting hezbollah greatly.

Undermines Lebanon and Hezbollah, Israel can build another wall against ISIL and bomb them non-stop with US paid ordnance, not so much with a centralized and Iranian backed Syria.

Israel doesn't actually give a fuck about Hamas relative to Hezbollah and the Iranians. Hamas is like Israel's pet toy to bat around and justify their militancy. Hamas could not fight its way out of a paper bag. Israel is totally comfortable with the status quo of a shitty and incompetent Palestinian Sunni militancy, along with dictatorial neighboring Sunni states (Egypt, Saudis, Turkey) that play nice with Israel behind the scenes.

The Arab Spring is like an Israeli nightmare come true because they are soon to be surrounded by Jihadistan (Eastern Syria/Western Iraq/Parts of Egypt) and Hezbollistan (Syria/Lebanon). Plus Turkey is going to hell in a handbasket. Hezbollistan, ironically, is starting to look like the better bet as Jihadistan spirals completely out of control.
