“Honestly, I want to knock him out, because everybody says [that] Islam a grappler or wrestler, but I want to show people my striking,” Makhachev told ESPN Deportes. “He is a short guy, and I really believe I can knock him out.”

This in my opinion is what separated GSP from other champions. He didnt want to alter perceptions - he just wanted to win and that is what made him great. This mentality of 'altering perceptions' to try and go for the ko will be Isalms downfall - ego. Hendricks was a prime example of this mentality.

That would be insanely impressive if he did so but I doubt it. Islam is underrated on the feet but Volk is a very smart and quick striker. Islam knows what his easiest path to victory is and I expect to see that.

I think Khabib not being part of the training/camp/coaching is going to play a major factor. The current training/coaching is nothing like it was when Khabib was in charge. Don't think anyone around can match Khabib's fight IQ and doesn't seem like they are being pushed as hard as they were when Khabib was in charge of the training/coaching. Kind of seems like they are just going through the motions.

Volk has no chin. Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Islam flattened him. An overhand left, a left straight or maybe even a front kick to the face.

Volks best performances are against guys known for eating punches, Max, Brian, Zombie, these guys might be top 3 record holders for most punches absorbed to the head, Volk is a very good striker, but people are acting like he's the Izzy/Alex of the featherweights, Islam will have no problem striking with him at all imo

Just running his mouth. I don’t think he or his corner ever seriously considered stand-up as a viable plan and Volk sure isn’t buying this crap.

Khabib stepped down from coaching like a few weeks ago. Where do you get all that?

What makes you say he has no chin? He's fought against plenty of strikers and barely been hurt.

KO doesn’t necessarily mean standing KO

It very well could be. Khabib's direct involvment seemed to be just that,a major factor.

Bad idea, want to prove he is the best striker? Book a MT fight with him, its MMA do what you do best.

Who are all these champions that wanted to “alter perceptions” ?
