Do you think Islam will be champion in 2021 or in 2022?
Definitely not 2021. We will be lucky to see him fight once more this year. Two next year.
Nah not a champion, top 5, and probably gets a few title shots that results in losses. I see Oliveria, Chandler, and Dustin all beating him.
A better question will be if he'll even have the requisite number of contender fights to get a title shot by the end of next year.
Seriously sherdawgs, what year do you think he will actually fight for the title?
#2 LW GOAT behind Khabib.
He is already the uncrowned champion every single guy ranked above him is ducking him.
Zero chance in 2021. It is already June and his next scheduled fight is against an unranked fighter in mid-July.
Best scenario for him is that he gets a spectacular finish against Moises. Gets a quick turnaround as an injury replacement against a top-five opponent during late fall. Makes it to the cage without injury or suffering the proverbial "visa issues" restricting his travel. Wins that fight and hopes for title shot mid-2022.
That is a lot of good fortune to happen to someone who has fought just nine times in six plus years in UFC.
Ummm that's his friend and training partner. Khabib's opinion is very biased. Islam hasn't beaten anyone note worthy yet. We'll truly see how good the guy is once he's tested against someone in the top 5.
Don't forget, Islam had a hard time against Arman Tsarukyan.
Islam hasn't put his name in murderer's row yet at 155. As it stands right now, with all the talent at 155, I don't see Islam's name belonging in the basket of potential champions yet.
late 2022 he'll be champ.
This will be a Islam (Khabib) fanboy circle jerk thread.
Charles is the Rodney Dangerfield of the LW division..
Some fighters in the top 5 don't belong in the top 5.
no because he fights once a year and fights nobodies
Some will have no choice after a loss to face him.
It's a good thing that he is in the top 10 and hasn't taken that much damage in his fights.
He's fighting next month. And i highly suspect he'll have another fight at end of year. His team has changed strategies, they saw Oliveira's path and they'll now focus on activity rather than getting big fights. He's on an 7 fight win streak, if he has a 9-10 fight win streak he really cannot be denied a title shot at that point, or at the very least a top contender fight.
When he's not pulling out of fights, he typically fights twice a year. The guy needs to put himself out there, start taking short notice fights, be a company man and he'll get the opportunities. Barely fighting is getting him nowhere. Instead he just calls out top guys and expects his win streak against low competition is enough to warrant him a top opponent lol
Will be hard for him to accomplish that even i n 2022. 2023 could be possible, if they give him some higher ranked guys and he keeps winning.
I don't think Islam will ever champ, but I wouldn't be shocked if I was wrong about that. I would be extremely surprised if he ended up being a dominant champion with 3 or more successful defenses.
