Islam had two controversially decisions early on in his career vs Egoyan (Sambo world champ) and Barnaoui (Bellator contender currently) and the Chris Wade fight nobody remembers but Wade took the first round vs Islam with control time on top and and round 2 was competitive as well, round 3 Islam took the back for the last two minutes. Hell the Arman Tsarukyan fight was insanely close too, round 1 and 2 were narrow margins and you could almost give them to either guy, round 3 Arman gassed largely due to short notice and it being his ufc Debut at 22. Seriously anyone with fight pass go back to rewatch that fight it was 13 sig strikes for Arman to 14 for Islam but but 60 total strikes for Arman and only 47 for Islam. Arman got 1 takedown in the first two rounds, Islam got 1 in each of rounds 1 and 2...neither guy had any meaningful control time or sub attempts in the first 2 rounds.

Volk had really competitive fights vs Chad Mendes and Max Holloway, Arguably lost that 2nd fight to Holloway and Mendes dropped Volk and took him down several times before Alex finished him and Mendes was basically a shell of himself and retired by this point.

I can totally see either guy losing, I don't give Volk much of a chance in this fight but Fiziev, Beneil, Arman II I think could potentially give Islam a lot of trouble and if/when Volk gets hammered back down to 145 the new generation of FWs in Allen, Topuria and Evloev won't be as easy as the past prime Aldo, Mendes and Zombie fights that's for sure.

It's gonna be fun, I hope Volk surprises me.

other fights have been allowed to continue after a shot like that but the follow-up shot put him out again and he probably would have just gotten dribbled off the mat like a basketball. if anything, the ref let him lose without taking a shitload of brain damage.
