This is a far more compelling storyline than Volk vs Yair. A rematch would be even more interesting considering both fighters will have a chance to make adjustments based on what they learned about eachother. This has that classic boxing trilogy feel.

Volk vs Yair would be fun but this feels like it could be a historic rivalry. It's not like there's a clear cut challenger at 155 except for Dariush but after tonight I think most fans would rather see Islam vs Volk 2. Besides Dariush It's a division of guys who lost to Khabib and Charles.

Perhaps Fiz is a good contender but I don't think that fight would draw as much as a rematch with Volk. I also wouldn't mind seeing Yair defend against Topuira.

Now that is a fight worth making. But it should only happen if Volkanovski puts his greed and selfishness to the side and relinquishes his FW belt. Stop stalling the fucking division and just move up. I'm sick of all the stalling that's been going on lately. Volkanovski had a fight in his own hostile (and very uncivil) territory. Pick a division and stick to it.

No they should not. Yair earned his title shot, if Allen wins he more than earned his title shot. Meanwhile Beneil has already earned a title shot and if/when he beats Oliveira will have super earned one. Same with Fiziev if he beats Gaethje. Time moves on, maybe a year or two down the line they can run it back if they both still have their belts. Entire divisions matter more than singular fighters, even champs.

If they fight Islam wins again except it will be more dominant

Scedule wise, yes!

If Yair wants to wait for september and Beneil vs. Charles is in may, that would mean they both (Volks and Islam) have no opponents available. They could have a rematch in may/june and be ready again september/october or how long do they want to sit out? Volk wants to be active, I don’t know about Islam.

Yair could just defend the interim belt.

Both are champs in stacked divisions. Just in the time it took to pair these two multiple contenders have emerged in both divisions.

Islam’s first two defences aren’t “super” if he’s fighting a guy in a weightclass below him.

Volk also has a lot of clean up to do now at 145. Yair, Allen, topuria, Evloev etc are all creeping up.

champs need to stick in their own lanes and dominate their divisions before earning a “super” fight. Otherwise If you want to fight the champ above or below you then move to their weight class and contend like everyone else has to.

Nah. Volk fought amazing but he lost 3-2 and he now has a belt to defend. It is what it is.

Well said! This "champ champ" business has gotten way out of hand.

Even better idea; let them fight a couple of contenders in their division and then have a rematch. Islam won fairly squarely so no need to hold up the divisions, and if they both win a couple more then the rematch sells itself and will be even bigger than if they held it immediately.

I'd like to see it again because its the most impressive performance I've seen of anyone against the Dagestani grappling system.

That said if Volk wants it he probably needs to drop FW altogether and move up to LW full time inc fighting contenders there too.

Carlton Harris vs Saygid Izagakhamaev

Evgeniy Ignatiev vs Gadzhi Rabadonov

Samandar Murodov vs Abdurakhman Alimagomedov

Henry Corrales vs Akhmed Magomedov

Daniel Pineda vs Movlid Khaybulaev

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Gleison Tibau

Islam Makhachev vs Arman first 2 rounds, Volk, Mansour and Egoyan

There's a lot more examples but these are Dagestanis that are direct stablemates of Khabib and Islam And some of the best among there team. I didn't even include some of the weaker links. If you're interested in learning more about the style and guys who can beat it or at least handle it and be competitive here's some homework honestly. Almost all of its on youtube or fight pass. You can report back to me.

Completely agree. They did it, it was great, let it be, no point doing it again at least for a long while, but even then I don't think the result will change both guys are very strong champions in their divisions.

I think Alex should just drop his 145 title & move up to 155 if he wants to fight there. Too many contenders in line for both belts

I think to be fair it was the best anti grappling performance I've seen of someone of that level. I've seen guys deal with dagi grapplers well in the past, but to do it against a guy of the level of Islam is crazy.

He did use that under the crotch and try and turn the corner anti dagi style that Vartanyan uses though so maybe Volk has been watching the same stuff as us lol.
