I say yes. JDS was a hard match for Cain in their fights because his style of good boxing, destructive KO power and damn good wrestling defense could've countered Cain's style of wrestling and good MMA striking that was used mostly to set up his wrestling and an unmatched pace. Obviously alot of this was disproved with Cain out striking JDS in their last 2 fights and not even relying on the TD to win but more so the fear of the TD but still though if anybody's going to counter Cain's style it's going to be a good striker with above average wrestling defense.
With Werdum it's a whole different ball game. Werdum's style doesn't exactly counter Cain's but if Werdum has it his way and Cain isn't 100% prepared for what Werdum can throw at him, Cain's style could instead play right into Werdum's whole gameplan. Werdum doesn't have to fear the TD because of his uber BJJ game if Cain was to take him down so he can pretty much throw all the strikes he needs to in order to attempt to win the stand up(I think Cain does have the better stand up but Werdum's striking is ever improving). Also one of Cain's main weapons against JDS was his clinch game and dirty boxing. With Werdum, he's not going to be afraid to pull guard if Cain tries that gameplan so I pretty much see the clinch game being a non factor as far as trying to grind out a win here(the Muay Thai is a different story though).
That all being said I do think Cain will win and if anyone is capable and has the potential to stifle Werdum's BJJ it is Cain but overall this match-up is very intriguing and I think this could be Cain's biggest challenge yet. What says you Sherdog?
