Is Usman a hopeless match-up for Woodley in a rematch?

It seems that Woodley's spirit and morale gets broken if he can't get the upperhand in the wrestling department. The boxing just doesn't click without it. I guess Usman being a Olympic alternate is simply a superior wrestler no matter how many times they face?

Is there anything in favor of Woodley in a rematch?

He certainly needs to change his gameplan compared to the first fight. Having actual cage experience with Usman is in itself something valuable from this POV.

Plus, he may take a page or two from Masvidal's latest book on how to deal with wrestlers.

Someone needs to tell him to stop backing up.

He did throw in a knee or two and landed but it wasn't enough. I think his spirit was broken early judging by his facial expression. I felt a bit bad for him.

    Yes.

Tyron looked fucking sad/depressed as fuck thru out the whole fight.

He mentally quit and went into survival mode.

Yeah, I agree, it really looked like Usman shut him off in all aspects. I think Woodley should def look for a tune up fight, he'll definitely need his mojo back before challenging for the title again.

How far apart are Woodley and Usman in the wrestling credentials? Cormier usually won because once he dominated the wrestling, the striking followed naturally..

The burden is all on Tyron for this. If Usman changes absolutely nothing, he'll still win easily.

Tyron isn’t touching the belt again imo, but has had a pretty good run, he should be happy about his career at this point and move on imo. He seems to be at the part of his career where when he does a training camp, he hurts something more often than not. Wish him the best but he isn’t getting any younger, and welterweight is a deep division, unlike say heavyweight where you can pick up wins past 40 somewhat comfortably.

So it's his style. Even harder to change.

Someone claimed that Woodley would have to beat the entire division to get a rematch because Dana does not want him as the champ..

Woodley doesnt have any striking besides one big right hand. He doesnt go to the body, has no combos, rarely kicks, almost never strikes to score points.

Thats great if you can KO or outwrestle your opponent, but when he cant outmuscle someone or land that big punch he’s just staring at his opponent.

Very true. Still, Mayweather JR respects his boxing a lot, and at one point thought he was the best in there. He would have been a decent boxer, I think.

Yeah, that's a problem too. But honestly, it's hard to imagine Woodley Stipe-ing his way into a rematch with Masvidal and Colby knocking on the door.

But the biggest betrayal is not giving Woodley the GSP fight, which Dana promised him.... I can't believe Dana got away with that. We have him on tape...

Usman is the favourite, but Woodley has dynamite in his hands.

Also, I've been involved in wrestling for over 30 years and more than a few times have seen two guys face off in a wrestling tournament and watched wrestler x dominate wrestler y in a match, and then the following weekend watched as wrestler y found a way to beat wrestler x. It happens even in straight up wrestling. It can certainly happen in a fight, with all of the added variables.

I don't know what you mean with the last sentence ("we have him on tape"). In my understanding GSP didn't want to fight Usman, not sure what Dana could have done.

But that's why I asked here, are Usmans credentials in wrestling that much better than Woodley that it would be unrealistic for Woodley to outwrestle him in a rematch? Let's leave aside the striking because frankly, the striking had nothing to do with the fact that Usman ragdolled him.

YES, he has one punch KO power, that's an equalizer for anyone!
