Is traditional martial arts effective in MMA, or is striking basically {boxing / muay thai / kickboxing}?

They outlawed it after watching Bloodsport

It is the way

Or you would see Machida/Wonderboy types rule the game instead

Karate’s don’t fare well with continuous fighting, effective however for that first strike getting there

I guess that would be your “kill-shot”

Boxing and Muay Thai are centuries old arts, never got the idea as to why they are lumped in separately from "traditional" martial arts.

I think TMAs are just martial arts in your dressing gown, you're quite correct though.

And on topic there's no reason why techniques from TMAs can't be applied in MMA, you really do need to train in boxing and Muay Thai as well though. Then again front kicks are done in karate and muay thai as just one example, many techniques cross over.

I believe the term "traditional" has nothing to do with age in this context.

It's about highly ritualized and non adaptive martial arts, hence creating a tradition that has to be kept alive.

Aspects and techniques of TMAs are applicable and effective in MMA. Look at MVP who is probably the best WW striker atm. If his grappling was better he would be a contender.
Even Gaethje who isn't associated with TMAs used to throw that crazy rolling thunder shit at the end of rounds which I think is from taekwondo or capoeira? It was partly for show but he was relatively effctive with it.
