I think the big competition here is You'll Romero

old answers used to be guys like Kenny Florini and the like

Tony is 25-3
15-1 in the UFC
Winner of TUF, which does mean something since the tournament does weed out people who can't make it
All finishes except two fights on his win streak
Wins over Kevin The Fighter Lee, Pettis, RDA, Cerrone, Tibau, Barboza, Thompson
12 ight win streak
20 wins over all by finish in his career
Has an interim title

I'd pick Maia over him. Maia is a much more higher level fighter who is fighting in a division where the best fighters are his literal kryptonite. I'm pretty sure if Tony decided to move up to WW at this moment, Maia would tap him out.

Tony is the best to not hold gold off the top of my head.

The fact that he has a “kryptonite” is the reason why he isn’t greater than Tony.

Tony is just better, and more accomplished. Not to shit on Maia at all. He’s awesome. But no. Answer to TS question is clearly Tony.

When was the last time Ferguson fought a high level wrestler? Staph tanklet Lee who mounted him and controlled him until he gassed? Castillo who neutralized him on the ground? I wouldn't compare these guys to the likes of Colby and Usman who have endless gastanks and amazing wrestling. Let him fight Khabib first, then we'll see about him "having no kryptonite", lmao.

It's either him or Platinum Mike Perry although Mike will have the WW strap sooner rather than later.

Maia isn’t better or greater than Ferguson dude lol knock it off.

There's an argument that Maia has accomplished more than Ferguson, because he's gotten title shots in two weight classes.
But its a bad argument, or at least not a good one.
Tony is fighting in arguably the deepest division, and on multiple occasions has fought his way to a title shot - fate and timing just haven't worked out.
I mean Maia got a title shot because Vitor pulled out
He was on a one fight win streak

Colby is a can

Colby is cringe but tony cuts from 200 to
fight at LW to avoid those boys. And it’s whatever, they all do it just sayin, well then again Can Colby doesn’t cut how tony does but still whatever most of em still do it

there will be others like Tony over the years as the sport grows...

Why? Because he doesn't have a comparable winstreak? When was the last time Ferguson fought the equivalents of Woodley, Colby and Usman back-to-back? I'd like to see his winstreak if he were forced to fight Gillespie, Makhachev and Khabib in a row. The type (not the level) of competition they have faced is not comparable, Maia was dealt a very shitty hand by fate with the top 3 guys in the division being his poison.

Agreed. Maia is great and has had some awesome wins. I just think what Tony has done, in a weight class that is consistently one of the deepest in the sport, has been incredible. He has a better resume at the weight class than Khabib does. And let’s not fighter, Tony won an interim title. That was just vaporized like Thanos and now everyone pretends it doesn’t exist.
