Is Tim Sylvia the most forgotten champion in the last decade?

I think Sean Sherk comes close but damn its like he never existed. I strongly disliked his fights and his career couldn't have end any worst than the way it did (Fedor/Mercer losses were embarrassing).

But I almost get the feels that this new gen never saw a single fight of his. With that being said his biggest loss was his performance on blind date in all honesty.

Sylvia bless

People still talk about Tim Sylvia pooping his pants.

Jens Pulver doesn't have anything like that to hang his hat on.

Menne Bless!

The man sleeps with his belt, he will always be remembered

Tim Sylvia was a legit monster in his prime. He destroyed Ricco to win the title and beat Cabbage Correira (who had a godlike chin) until his corner was forced to throw in the towel. He also beat a prime Arlovski who was also a monster.

His only losses until the Mercer KO were against guys like Fedor, Nogueira, Mir etc. It all went downhill for him when he got fat as fuck and Ray Mercer knocked him dead in like 3 seconds, which is probably how a ton of people will remember him

In the modern era of the UFC ( Zuffa ). There have been a few forgettable champs.

I'd rather not disrespect them by actually remembering them.

But every one of them was a true champion. A claim Conor will never achieve.

I haven't forgotten him one bit. One of the greatest heavyweights. Still holds the record for most defenses in the UFC heavyweight division (tied with Couture).

Beat Arlovski 2x.

I still hate that Rizzo/Sylvia never transpired.

Never seen it, don't care to. His UFC career is where he shined.

Never should have took the Mercer fight. Going in to a fight , out of shape against a legit boxer even if he was out of his time, is stupid.

One of my of the times I'll always remember is when Couture came back an announced he was going to fight him for the belt . Tim's face was priceless . It was like , iron man in that last captain America when he's like "i thought we were friends".

But prime timeh was a bad dude
R.I.P. The account of goober Taylor

People still remember Tim as the butt of many jokes, getting fat, getting KO'd by Mercer, bombing on Blind Date, etc.

No one ever talks about fighters like Ricco or Menne anymore unless it is in one of these threads about forgotten champs.

The guy is unfortunately a mockery to most MMA fans

But like you said, his performances against Gan McGee, Cabbage, Ricco, Arlovski, and THAT head kick on Tra Telligman were all amazing wins

I'm a fan of Big Tim, always will be. And gutted he never got to fight Paul Buentello during that 2002-2006 run

Beat me to it, the guy was a destroyer, a legit HW fighter and champion

Also, people laugh at the Jeff Monson fight, but Monson was an animal back then, taking people down at will and putting them to sleep with some of the most powerful chokes we'd seen at that point

Was Goober the guy who had the Tim Sylvia appreciation club?

I'm not ashamed to say I signed up!
I cant recall but if someone had a Tim sylvia appreciation club it was him haha. He was a hardcore Sylvia fan and defended him in every thread until the Mercer thing. It was too much for him

Tim Sylvia was a bum. I see these threads pop up now and again. Newsflash, just because its old doesn't mean it's good or worthy of nostalgia. This guy sucked, period. He had 50+ pounds on Couture and probably 5-6 inches of height and got completely tooled by Randy. This guy defined mediocre.
