The times of Sonnen like dudes who just charging in for the takedown from the getgo with succes, is coming to an endthe t feels like anyways.

Jones in his last fight displayed the best tdd i think i have ever seen since Mirko was in the office. He really set the bar.

then we have the nova uniao guys who are just killing it with tdd. Hacran dias, Aldo, Barao and thats just the top guys.

Anthony Pettis... I was pretty suprised how Bendo was struggling so hard to get one single takedown. Gil too. Pettis didn't always had tdd.

Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone had poor TDD too but now its very hard to take those guys down.

Heck i'll throw Anderson in this too. He really did his homework after the first Sonnen fight. In so short period of time he improved his tdd from like 20% to 80%. Crazy.

It wasnt like this back at, lets say ufc 100.

Vitor is the one who can prove my theory right. He has struggled in the past with wrestlers. If he shuts down Weidmans wrestling, then holy shit.

Even more so than Liddell's era? He lived off his TDD.

Comes with the end of the 1 dimensional fighters. Nowadays you need to be able to strike to close distance to be able to wrestle effectively.

I don't know if it's the era but it certainly is the game and I love it! Wrestlers were making too much noise in td's guys had to get better.

I think it's easier to stop something from happening than to make something happen. Submissions, takedowns etc.

If that is true, then it makes sense to be really good at striking, takedown defense/reversals with a sub-section in taking down and submissions/g&p.

But, the pendulum always swings. People will get good at TDD, then someone else will get really good at submissions and the dance dances on.
