Is this a Karo Parisyan situation?

I remember Karo earning a title shot against Matt Hughes after beating Matt Serra but an injury, a lose to Diego Sanchez made Karo extremely bitter and him losing his drive which led to anxiety and a burnout.

I remember Gus was being critical for getting bumped off from the title shot and this loss seemed very soul crushing to him.

Is Gus going to have less drive and determination because of how these situations played out?

Doubt it. He just needs the right match up and be able to redeem himself. Give him bader next

That's the thing though, what if he gets Phil Davis and then ends up getting fitched up!?

This would probably kill his passion for mma and he might end up fizzling out. I mean I remember Karo losing to Alves seemed to pretty much extinguish The Heat and after the Alves loss Karo who was almost impossible to finish became a stepping stone to average mma fighters outside of the ufc.

Well, then maybe he's just not cut out for this game? Of course you are going to be having fun when it's all sunshine and rainbows. It's how you deal with the dark days that really proves your character.

Not saying anything bad about Gus. I wanted Rumble to win, and I'm glad he did, but I have nothing against Alexander. However, if one slight and a loss or two is going to push him (or anyone) over the mental edge, then it's time for them to find a new career.

Davis & Gus fought when both had very little experience. Gus was a good striker & Davis was a full blown wrestler. Even then, Davis struggled to get Gus down. Now Gus has evolved & improved his TDD & his offensive wrestling, while all it seems Phil has done is decided to strike too much..

That fight wouldn't even be competitive at this point. And I say that as someone who like Davis more than Gus...

I think that's a possibility.

It feels so similar, I mean both Karo and Gus were complaining about getting shafted and both were unhappy about getting their time slot taken away from them. Both of them were also devastated d after their respective loss in their pivotal match which for Karo was Alves while gus losing to rumble.

Honestly though, its a bit of a tease when you get promised an important fight only to have the promoter pull it right underneath you. I know for a fact that most high level mma fighters need emotional drive to perform their insane workouts. So a major loss can really steal their drive and determination.

Although Gus wont quit, he may not be fired up go through training camps and maybe less fired up for his mma career.

Well Fitch finished Burkman many years ago and yes although it was a long time ago, in the rematch Burkman choked Jon Fitch out. Which says something since Fitch is known to have a great sub defense.
