is there any difference between a muay thai kick and a kickboxing kick?

Both coaches teach me different kicks. Kickboxing coach tells me to pivot more and muay Thai coach tells me not to rotate?

You should always rotate when you kick, and pivot. Well that's the way Ive been taught by all my instructors, I do Muay Thai.

Does your pivot foot end up pointing behind your body? Coz my muay Thai coach doesn't like this. He says I'm rotating too much..

Sounds like it, we normally step out about 90 degrees on the pivot foot which seems to be the sweet spot. Doesn't need to pivot more then that otherwise I'm going to have a tough time recovering position if the kick misses completely.

Depends on the height of the kick. The higher the kick the more pivot. A brazillian kick necessitates you turning the heel so far that it ends up facing your opponent. Neck kicks are similar.
