Alot is spoken of the pay gap in soccer and shit between men and women but as far as I know there is literally no pay gap in the UFC. I mean of course prelim bums get paid like bums, but for the most part the pay is equal.

That's pretty progressive on Dana 's part, and he deserves praise for that .<mma4>

mens getting paid less than they deserve, women getting paid more than they deserve

Dana is leading the charge in gender equality, and his commitment to being a fair, nice, and honest person is really something to admire.

The pay gap is not so big in the ufc, cause the large majority earn very little, so they are pretty equal in being poor. Only few fighters make big bucks. Some more stats.

These stats are for the ufc:
  • The average household income in the U.S. is around $45,000 per year, yet over a third of the UFC’s fighters (213 fighters – 37%) made less than the average American household in 2018. I guess sometimes it doesn’t pay to get punched and kicked in the face.
  • Only 187 fighters in the UFC are currently earning six-figure salaries. This looks extremely bad when compared to the NFL rookie salary minimum of $450,000.
  • 15 men and women wore UFC championship belts (including interim) in 2018, and they earned an average of $783,400 (up from $666,643 in 2017) . This can also be contributed to the rise in interim belts.
  • The highest earning non-UFC champion in 2018 was Conor McGregor, who pulled in an astonishing $3,030,000 (this was only base salary for the fight, PPV split and Sponsorships were believed to have been an upwards of $50 million).

Is it worth getting punched and kicked in the face, your thoughts?

Yeah, no. Both do the same job. Women's Featherweight division has a higher finishing rate than every men's division besides HW & LHW. Just because you personally enjoy it less doesn't mean they work less and should get paid less

Ronda was basically the biggest UFC draw ever besides Conor. Wish Nunes was as marketable

The wage gap is an antiquated idea

Well over 50 percent of all graduate degrees are obtained by women and the result is higher paying executive positions...

As far as sports go, i think the proof is in the pudding.. the UFC can muddy the waters by forcing WMMA on their consumers, but why on earth would WNBA players be paid as much as NBA players? One company makes billions with millions of viewers, the other a fraction of that

If you have 10 women's featherweight fights compared to 100 in the men's featherweight (or any other) division, the finishing rates are not going to be indicative of quality of product.

If female fighters build a big fanbase and start pulling in money (like Ronda) then they get paid, same goes for the dudes... plenty of guys that have been toiling away for years and are still relegated to the undercard.

Unfortunately the hard work that anyone (man or women) puts in doesn't translate directly to $$

the gap isnt between men and women. its between the larger weight classes and the smaller.

i know you get paid for what you bring in, but no way MM should have the record for consecutive title defenses and be showing up for 100k show, 100k win

Pro athletes aren't paid according to their athletic accomplishments, they are paid according to the viewership, popularity and publicity they generate. The wage gap is a tricky question in sport because two world champions in the exact same sport aren't identically valuable. Ronda Rousey showed it isn't about gender, but about how many butts you put in the seats.

This; only Women's Strawweight comes close to having the same depth as a men's division, the rest are pathetic.

No. of fights last year:
WFW: 6
WBW: 12
WFLW: 23
WSW: 32

You can paid according to your economic productivity. Not wins and losses per se.

I don't know why more people don't get this, especially in prize fighting.

The guy in my avatar is arguably the greatest martial artist in history, but he's not especially economically productive so he's not getting paid big money.

women shouldn't even be getting paid, they are receiving more promotion than they could ever earn themselves.

Nunes is very marketable, look at her fights that says it all however she can also be an ambassador for the LGBT community, for Brazil also.

Lol- the gender pay isnt the problem. The pay is the problem.

Womens featherweight division has only had about 3 fights.

If there is any wage gap it's because women are getting those degrees in crappy majors. A study was done of the best paying majors and worst paying majors and the percentage of males and females taking those majors. Here's what was found:

5 Best Paying Majors
1. Petroleum Engineering - 87% male
2. Pharmaceutical Sciences - 52% female
3. Math and Computer Sciences - 67% male
4. Aerospace Engineering - 88% male
5. Chemical Engineering - 72% male

5 Worst Paying Majors
1. Counseling and Psychology - 74% female
2. Early Childhood Education - 97% female
3. Theology and Religious Vocations - 66% male
4. Human Services and Community Organization - 81% female
5. Social Work - 88% female

So really it's a matter of choice of career as to why women aren't getting paid as much.

You get paid what you can draw in. And if you’re stuck in a contract you’re stuck - you signed it.
