Is the UFC trying to eliminate Khabib by offering him a fight with Jose Aldo?

We all know its either Khabib or Tony in line for a TS at LW.

But now Aldo has gone on record implying that Khabib turned down an interim LW title fight with him. Why would they even offer Aldo this fight, when he has a legit contender in Max Holloway at FW?

If you know anything about the sport, you'd know that Aldo is possibly a very bad matchup for Khabib. He's a great striker with possibly the GOAT TDD and amazing scrambling ability to get back up if he gets taken down. Of course he is much smaller, but TDD is a skill, and if he can stay off the ground there is no doubt that he can light Khabib up with his striking.

So why are the UFC offering the FW champ an interim title LW fight?

The only reason I can think of is to protect McGregor from Khabib. If they can get Aldo to do Conor's dirty work for him and eliminate Khabib, then Conor will fight Aldo as his first LW defense who is a much more favorable matchup.

    Thoughts?

Aldo is just talking his way to a title... You have to realize that there's a 50% chance neither Tony or Khabib makes it to the cage cause Khabib is injury prone and Tony pulls out too... Aldo is unreliable, but would rather have a fight with one of them then possibly lose his only belt to Max...

Aldo said the UFC offered him the shot, and Ariel confirmed.

    He's not talking nonsense.

No, they're not. They're trying to set up a fight between the FW champion and the #1 contender at 155 since 1) Tony Ferguson doesn't seem to want the fight; 2) Conor is taking a time off; 3) both of them want (or at least talk the talk) to fight Conor McGregor.

If you've ever trained with high level athletes (grappling, striking, mma) you'd know that size is a huge factor.

The Winner of Khabib/Aldo would make a fight Vs Connor even bigger.

    I vote yes.

Of course it is, but there's not THAT big of a size difference.

Just remember, Frankie Edgar (natural BW) was competitive with Benson Henderson (natural WW.)

Aldo is a pretty big FW. He really struggles to make that weight.

How about Aldo fights Max, and Khabib fights Tony.

    Then Conor fights both winners.

The UFC offered Aldo the shot...as in the shot against Khabib or the LW title shot?

Max called out Aldo for 208 but is now claiming he is hurt, the UFC tend to take away opportunities from fighters that mess them around like this.

He wants the fight the guy that beat him.

Beating the LW contenders and claiming an interim LW title will guarantee him a shot at Conor at 145lbs or 155lbs.

Only way Conor can escape from Aldo if Aldo is holding that interim LW belt is if Conor goes up to 170lbs to get smashed by some huge WW wrestlers.

Bonus point 1 .... fighting Conor again will make Aldo more money than all of his non Conor fights combined.
Bonus point 2 .... Aldo becomes a two division champ like Couture, Penn and McGregor.

So he gets a chance to avenge his loss .... make a TON of money ... and 2 weight champ.

He can retire right after that probably as GOAT thanks to the hype this will all build and because his resume is truly legit outstanding. He already is in the top 4 or 5 discussion as is.

Aldo vs Khabib is a farce. If Khabib wins, he'll end up fighting Ferguson next leaving Aldo further away from a rematch with Conor. If Aldo wins, Conor and Dana will use the KO as an excuse to not fight him again.

This is nothing more than cheap tactics to eliminate challengers and force another Diaz fight, which is likely Conor's next fight anyway.

I know Aldo wants that fight.

My question is why the UFC is willing to give it to him, now, all of a sudden? When previously, it didn't seem like they had any intention of making it happen.

They're using Aldo as leverage to get Tony to sign on to fight Khabib. Tony wants more money.

If Khabib fights Aldo, who does that leave for Tony? I'm guessing maybe Alvarez since he just beat RDA, who Alvarez beat for the title.

I wouldn't be mad about that, but I do think the Tony/Khabib fight needs to happen already.

Unless Ariel spoke to Khabib and Tony, that's hard to confirm. He can only confirm that Aldo did get offered what he did by the UFC.

I want someone to tweet Khabib, lets he what he says about this. Just a week ago we have Ferg pretending like Khabib didn't wanna fight him, now he's the one whose having to backtrack, saying he needs a raise. So we've seen this shit before with guys giving unreliable interviews.
