Is the UFC more of a sport? Or more of a business?

Okami cry baby thread in disguise # 2000+???

As a huge boxing fan id say MMA and the UFC is more of a sport while boxing is a business.

Because the shot clock in the NBA isn't to encourage action?

The NBA and other sports do change rules to encourage entertainment. They also don't drop fundamentally sound ballplayers simply because they'll never be the stars of the team.

With the current way the UFC handles its fighters, how will it ever be able to compete with major sports like football, American football, or basketball? Cutting athletes simply because they're boring is not exactly professional. There is without a doubt that the UFC is a business, but if it ever considers it a sport even a little, it should treat it so. Winning within the rules is still winning, boring or not.

The rules of winning a MMA fight doesn't consist of being exciting, or even finishing fights, as long as the fighter has his/her hand raised at the end of the bout, its a victory. If a fighter is laying on you for 25 minutes, it is the other fighter's responsibility then to know how to get back up, defend take downs, and win the fight from there. This posses a major disadvantage to wrestlers, BJJ practitioners, and more styles that are more or less "boring".

Dana and Rogan always defend Jones' knee kicks and other questionable tactics inside the cage, their response always is "It's within the rules, so he's allowed to do it". I'm a big fan of GSP, but he's been blanketing over guys since Serra, but he's allowed to do it. It seems like the UFC is having some major double standards. Shame on you, Dana White.

UFC is a business trying to pass as a sport.
As long as people buy into their crap, why not?

it is, after all, a winning business, right?

MMA is supposed to be a sport and The UFC is new age pro wrestling.

It's as simple as that my friend.

UFC is garbage. It's catered to the lowest of the lowest common denominator , the ignorant white trash society that is ironically the same demographic majority of sheep that the government takes advantage of.

Every 'professional' sport is a business. You hear it a lot from pro athletes themselves as well.

I hate the "MMA isn't a sport because they cut boring fighters" argument. It's a stupid argument and it's comparing apples to oranges. All sports are businesses. Team sports need their teams to win championships in order to sell out their stadiums and flood the market with over priced merchandise. Even if you do everything right, but fail to make it to the big show, you could be cut. Happens to players, happens to coaches. If you aren't making the franchise money, or your price tag doesn't match your value to the team, you are gone.

MMA does the same thing. If you aren't puttig asses in the seats, you are gone. If your performance doesn't math your pay, you are gone.

Baseball, football, hockey, baskeyball, mma..doen't matter. You are either contributing to higher revenue or you are gone.

Naf L time is obviously a foreign liberal with no knowledge of the real world. Talk about sheep........dude can't even write anything that hasn't been stated by the ignorant a milion times. YAWN

The Fertitta brothers have a significant interest in the betting industry. That will probably give you a hint.

They're ALL businesses except world football/soccer to various degrees of legitimacy/fairness w/ UFC obviously being in the lower end.

UFC is a sports league
sports leagues are businesses
UFC is a business
UFC is MMA
MMA is a sport

this

sports are a business. people get a contest mixed up with a sport. people complain about having standups for stalling and want to do away with rounds etc. that shit is fine if the ufc was a contest. its a sport and rules are needed to maximize entertainment

All "pro" sports are businesses. That's what pro means - it means you do it for a living.

It doesn't just mean they r good at the sport.

Not at all buddy , I'm an American born , longtime hardcore mma fan that can see through the smoke and mirrors that is the UFC. The fact that you can't just re affirms that you are that same demographic that they cater to.
