Look at this post. Only 800 likes but they have 4.6 million followers…

And Dana White said power slaps social media following is greater than all other sports leagues

Is Dana White and co artificially inflating their sports leagues social media followings? Including the UFC? It seems so.

I'm fairly certain that those figures are rock solid, and anything extra in terms of money is going directly to the fighters

Undoubtedly. As for Dana's idiotic comment about total social media following... Well, he's always been a bloated bag of hot air, so this is simply business as usual.

That is not the UFC tho.

Do humans actually engage with sponsored content? I can understand "liking" something from a friend or family member.

Yes, it's a fair assumption that the premier cage fighting organization is cutting corners to maximize advertisement exposure. Also, of course Dana would exaggerate to promote the business m

Conversely - if you can buy followers, (bots?) can you not also buy some 'likes' from them?

I do not know a lot about this kind of thing. Here on Sherdog is the only place I 'like' anything. I have IG, but never 'like' a single thing.

it wouldnt surprise me with how much the ufc uses "influencers" to push the product nowadays.

I'm not surprised in the least if they bought every single one of them.
I'd be legit blown away if someone told me SLAP has 10K viewers that tune in every week to catch full episodes.
Hell i can't be bothered to even watch the 30 second clips anymore.

I saw an interesting video awhile ago. Someone pretty conclusively proved that Rumble inflated their viewcounts and I have no doubt the UFC is getting some of that.

From what I've gathered "bot" implies either a program that's scripted to engage with anything a designated source broadcasts (example, a poster using this software would post something on their account and the software would "like" or "click a link" (for viewcount), etc, or it's a room full of actual humans using multiple devices to interact with an account of a larger scale (there are some videos of these "social media farms")

From a business perspective, I understand the function, it's basically the new way of cooking the books for shareholders, to make your product seem bigger than it is for the sake of promotion, but the entire concept of social media is grotesque so the only things I "like" is when my wife or mom posts a picture of their garden or whatever.

I have no clue how the marketing and kickbacks work behind the scenes; I'm guessing that a higher view count in theory would yield a higher payout but I'm an idiot so why knows?
