First of all, Happy New Years to my Sherdog family. I feel extremely connected to all of you. We are bonded in our love of MMA and each other. This got me thinking, if I'm this connected my Sherdog family, how close are fighters? Is the UFC a brotherhood (sisterhood)?
Fighters understand each other struggles. They go through the same highs, lows, agony, and pain. Fighters spend months thinking about each other. They train and prepare for one man for months. They talk about each other and meet at press conferences to face off. They stand face to face, mouth to mouth. This is the type of emotional bond I can only dream of.
Then after months of preparing for each other, they meet to face off in a physical contest in the front of the world. They hold, hug, clinch, touch, and hit each other. They grind their bodies together, sweat on each other, rub against one another, and battle to see who is the more dominant person. This is the type of physical intimacy I could only dream of.
This type of behavior must cause a bond between the fighters that is unlike anything we see in other sports. We as fans need to appreciate what these men go through, and realize they take on their brothers for our entertainment. MMA bless!
