Is the UFC 145lb Division Doomed?

She should compete in the men's 135 division but as a 145 pound fighter

That would be interesting

Conor vs Khabib THEN Cyborg vs the winner right after the fight

This is my dream matchup

The UFC has only 3 signed fighters at 145, Cyborg, Letson and Anderson and don't seem to be in a hurry to sign more. Since the UFC started 145 at least for now it seems at least to have led to no real increase in the number of women competing at 145.

Even if they do sign more 145lb fighters how many actually plan to stay at 145? How many are just going to sign at 145 only to cut to 135 once in the UFC?

In addition Bellator has signed many of the few decent 145lb fighters and is continuing to sign more.

Should the UFC just give on the division and let Cyborg go finish her career in Bellator after the end of her contract?
I just thought of this, maybe they just remove the division formally but allow 145 fights from time to time. The other thing they could do is merge women's bantam and feather to 140. That kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

If by "interesting" you mean "retarded", then I agree.

There's a word that sums up this joke of a division: abortion.

Catering to ppl like Conor, and Cyborg has given the UFC a serious black eye. There is very little legitimacy anymore.

Everybody, and their dog, knew FW was stupid idea. And, it was announced before any mention of FLW. Which was actually the division the UFC needed the most.

And, I bet most of the WMMA fans in here would MUCH rather have AW, than FW.

Dumb idea to placate a can crusher. And, she just keeps asking for more. The word cuckold gets thrown around in here by ppl that clearly don’t know the actual definition of the word. Because, it only has ONE definition.

But, check out a thesaurus, for some words synonymous with cuckold.

There’s a picture of Dana there.

BRUTAL !

Preach it, brother! Especially the bolded part.

I agree. But it would be better than doing nothing though...

You know what would be better? Flushing it down the toilet. Like an abortion.

LOL
I agree. they should have then and they need to to is ASAP.
But doing nothing is what kills me.
Why create it without a good plan to make it good?
Why sign Cyborg with a huge contract if you don't do #1?

UFC is just screwing up time after time with no logic at all.... I seriously don't understand how they can be that clumsy... and still be the biggest promotion out there...

Letson is skilled, Spencer is in contract talks, Madison is a disappointment thus far imo.. UFC should be trying to sign Budd and Talita though. Plus, there are couple 145 women prospects on the regional scene right now out here in Ca, that may become something in a year or two.

Cyborg already said if UFC does not build a division she is going to Bellator.
And what did UFC do since? Booked her against Nunes... then Yana and now back to Nunes...
Heck, UFC could have absorbed the 145 division from Invicta, like they did with the other division, but yet they chose not to.
Cyborg will finish her contract with whoever she can find then leave... unless Bellator does not want to pay her what the UFC is willing to pay her to beat them 135'rs...

That B is lying. Invicta was paying her $90-100k per fight. UFC is paying her at least this much, but def. more.

Headlining the recent can crushing PPV event, probably banked her at least $200k and if with PPV points, it should double or more. No way is Bellator able to match this. Their events aren't even PPV.

Why is she lying?
First of all, there's sponsorship money to be made at Bellator.
Beyond that, bellator pays well for top fighters, and Cyborg (as long as she does not lose) is the GOAT WMMA FW (if not GOAT WMMA period). So they very well could spend the money to get the top WMMA fighter there is.

And lastly, Cyborg has spoken that her legacy is more important than money... and surely you will agree that fighting girls that belong to 145 LBS division will do a lot more than keep fighting 135r's.

Cyborg made 500,000 her last fight, no way Bellator can match that, besides if she leaves and the UFC keeps the 145lb division all of the girls who would have signed with Bellator are instead going to sign with UFC/Invicta, so she is going to have the same problem in Bellator she has now, no 145lb opponents to fight.

I'm surprised UFC didn't try and make TUF this year about the WFW 145 pounds division.
Instead they are going with this crappy 'unbeaten streak' gimmick of fighter, some of which have an 'unbeaten streak' of 3-0.
It seems wise to me that they filled out loads of contenders for Cyborgs division. The fact that they didn't tells us they aren't even confident they can find enough women of that size willing to even entertain the thought of fighting Cyborg.

Thought from the title you meant the men's division and was "fucking hell Sherdog"

But yes, W145 was doomed from the start, and Megan Anderson making Cat and Cain look like Cowboy Cerrone doesn't help.

Same lol. Men's 145 hasn't looked this stacked in a long time

Sorry, but on what do you base this insane response?
UFC did create 145 LBs division, and no one jumped to join UFC while Bellator signed a bunch of new girls to their 145 LBs division.
And as I posted before, the money is not everything.
1) bellator does pay well to their top talent. Cyborg would be paid well.
2) And even if they would not match UFC (which I agree they will not), Cyborg can easily find sponsors, a thing she couldn't while in the UFC.
3) Bellator already has a 145 LBs division. UFC has her.

Want to bet me $100 right now that Cyborg won't go to Bellator by the end of 2018?

I won't bet anything.
I am not in her camp nor I know what will the UFC offer her to stay.
They were dumb enough to make her the highest paid WMMA fighter in their roster... why would I bet that the UFC would make a good decision (and let her go)?

Maybe signing Cyborg was more about messing with Bellator, than actually making a legit FW division.

The only reason there is a 145 women’s division is all for Cyborg... if she wasn’t there they wouldn’t have it hopefully like 5-7 years down the road more women will compete

The ufc should branch out. Everyone knows she can' be beaten at 145 in MMA. So why not have cyborg do boxing or thai? Maybe more opportunitis to generate interest. This last fight was a mismatch as always with cyborg.

Well you kept making bold comments about her leaving the UFC for Bellator which made no sense.
