I used to be an avid The Ring reader, but I kind of gave up on it, because back then I didn't have enough time to truly dig into it. But I do miss that fix and I'm still big on actual magazines/books in this interwebz era.

Anyone here who still reads The Ring on a regular basis? Is is still good? Any good alternatives out there?

Where are you based? I read their online stuff.

I live in Antwerp, Belgium. There are some international magazine stores who have them on sale. I can even get a prescription over here, so my guess is that they get printed somewhere in Europe as well, otherwise these would be crazy expensive with shipping and all that.

I usually pick up boxing monthly but you might not get it in Belgium.

Hahaha, you're right. Lay off the meds, kiddo lol

So you prefer Boxing Monthly, Sunfish? Any reason why it's better?

I like their writing. They tend to keep it local but I learn about fighters I don't see.

People like Fat Dan and Gareth a Davies write as if they haven't watched the fights. I don't get the same feel with boxing monthly.

Oh, okay Jonny Dekartes.

You did spell it however you wished.... and it just so happened that you spelled it wrong.

Prescriptions aren't solely written for drugs, they're written for treatments. A treatment can include drugs or it could include other forms of therapy not limited to medication.

Thanks for playing though

I have a subscription. It's not full of breaking news or anything. That's what the Internet is for. But sometimes they do have some really cool articles or interviews. It's worth it. I like reading about the sport.

Yeah, I remember back in 2004/5, I really liked reading their articles. They sometimes had this really cool old school sportswriting vibe going on. Of course, like you said, in this day and age, the actual news value of magazines like this is up for debate. But I don't know, I love stories in boxing, they're one of the major draws for me about the sport. And The Ring used to have great stories. Definitely going to check out Boxing Monthly as well, seems like a solid read.

It's not terrible, it's an easy (if incomplete) way to keep up with the sport, and their "best I faced" is always fun.

The problem with Ring is that everything in there, you've read a month before the magazine comes out.

I used to read it pretty religiously and preferred their historical stuff over anything else, but haven't read it in years.

I am well aware of the "right" way of spelling Cartesian or Rene Descartes. "thekartesian" is my name and I will spell it the way I want, and it will be always be right. Because it is my name. Moron.

Thanks for checking the dictionary for the definition of prescription. So you can get a prescription for a magazine nowadays, yeah?

I can see why you have dubs. You're an idiot who loves to argue, even when you are arguing about nothing.

I'd get it more often if it wasn't 8 or 9 dollars. I've been thinking about a subscription though as that brings the price down.

Just got my subscription from their official site, 18 issues for 105 $ (I think it was 75$ for you Americans). For that price they are all shipped to me and I get a login for their digital library. Haven't checked out how far it goes back, but all and all, that's a pretty solid deal. No more Tindering for me when I'm on the shitter.
