Is Streaming hurting ratings?

A UFC PPV in no way shape or form is worth 65$
UFC 227 is not worth even 20$

If they created a solid main card ( meaning all five fights were good) and it was priced at 50$ I would consider buying them again.

They need to go the way of the other major sports and just make all their cards free. Just kill it on advertising. Maybe put together a super-card ppv once or twice a year. But they want the short-term money they get from circus fights instead. It's cutting off the nose to spite the face.

It depends on how they calculate ratings these days. I watched the card from the Fox Sports app on my roku and not on cable, so even if I had a Neilsen box that might not give them ratings for it.

Pirate streams are killing them I'm sure. If they switched to a monthly subscription model I'd be much more likely to pay for cards nowadays.

Are the UFC rev numbers going down? A lot of talk about worse numbers, but if events double and numbers per event goes down by 30% then the UFC is doing better.

Why would streaming impact a free card?

PPV cards most definitely
Because I assume Zuffa gets money based on the amount of views the program gets so someone streaming wouldn't add to those numbers.

To each his own I guess. More for me :)

The same amount for you, none.

PPV revenue, don't think is affecting add revenue that much since we streamers still see all those godawful brands around every corner of the octagon.

same with live streaming the free cards and commercials, we still see them so I would think they count for something when negotiating the advertisement deals.
No it doesn't count for jack shit. You don't cut a ad deal based off the unknown number of thieves streaming your product. Only verifiable numbers count. Streamers are taking money out of the fighters pockets. SAD.

I had comcast cable for about a decade and in the end, after looking back, it crept-up to about $1,000 a year and the only thing I really watched was the History Channel...which eventually morphed into producing shows about everything but real history (Ancient Aliens, Ice Road Truckers, etc).

Now, I just do Netflix, Amazon Prime, NFL game pass and Fight pass (which I'm about to cancel). Get all of the stuff I want and it's cheaper per month than cable..which is bloated with bullshit I don't want/need. Cable is dying.

just like boxing, computers and porn ... I will probably hear that again in 20 years.

You pay for netflix? lmfao

I am not sure that's true, companies know how much of a lift they get on sales from an ad campaign. So even if they are attributing a higher conversion rate in their numbers, they are still considering the lift. Plus I am sure these companies account for a % of streamers to actual cable viewers.

GTFO. Companies don't pay for ads based on revenue lift. Prices are set based on number of eyeballs. And ain't nobody charging for or paying a single advertising dime for for people stealing the broadcast.

What's funny about paying for Netflix?
criminals have a strange sense of humor, like small children. giggling that got away with something until they get caught and then it's always, and mean always someone's else's fault.

Surely is. Not proud of it, but I have watched many ppvs on stream recently. I still buy a few of them though, since I enjoy the HD experience. Wish I was living in the US to be able to watch them in a local bar or something.

Why would streaming impact a free card?

PPV cards most definitely

As others have said, many people going on their phone or computers to watch fights instead turning on the tv.

We aren’t talking ad dollars but viewership numbers, and if tv viewership numbers are down the money you can get for your commercials during that program go down.

Netflix is hurting cable subscriptions, if that is what you mean...

I doubt anyone is replacing cable by looking for free streams of of everything they would want to watch.

Yeah but Netflix and Hulu have caused many many people to cut cable. And when a free card comes on, they go online to watch it.

Get a job?

Seriously though, there are services that I have gotten rid of like a home phone (cell phones have made it pointless)

But cable? There is plenty of content that is both regional (Canadian news for example ) that isn't available on digital platforms

Not everyone cares about that content and often it’s not on when you have time to sit down and watch it. I have cable because of my wife, and I really only watch like two channels on it, the rest is garbage. And if I do find a show I really like, I want to watch the old seasons too, but guess what, can’t do that. I find a show on Netflix or Hulu that I like and I can often go watch all the old seasons too.

According to the Box Office a Shitload of people..

According to box office movie tickets sells have been dropping like flies these past few years. Picture quality is not great on those screens, the audio is usually way to loud, if there is hype behind a movie it’s hard to get a good seat or even sit next to your friends unlesss you get there hours early, and oh yeah, every once in a while some crazy fucker will walk in and start shooting.

Get a life?

Anyone that watches the trash that is the "reality TV" and gossip "news" bullshit that is on basic cable deserves the brain rot that has to come along with watching that shit.

Great post.

I don't think so.
If anything FN is not PPV, so how could it hurt them?

Even PPV's don't hurt them as much as people think.
Because PPV is only in US.
Virtually everywhere else, it is on open TV, which UFC has side deals around the globe.

So no, I don't think it hurts them as much as people think.

People who don’t have cable can’t watch fight nights on FS1, how does cord cutting NOT effect that? And most of my mma friends went cut cord years ago and don’t but ppv and stream or watch them at my house. How does this trend not effect PPV numbers?

Of course streaming hurts TV ratings. There shouldn't even be a debate about that. And UFC isn't the only one being affected.
