Is Stipe vs. DC another short term solution for WME?

Holding up 2 divisions. Creating new Interim belts.

Sounds familiar ever since the WME took over.

WME match making. Nothing surprises me anymore.

I normally hate this line but I feel like myself, even other competent fans, could matchmake better than we've seen lately.
Even just hyping prospects and creating divisions has been non-existent. As silly as the old school(like pre UFC 100) hype videos were, they were pretty darn good at making even the most boring decision machines look exciting.
Now it seems the eggs are all in one basket when it comes to fighter promotion. It's really bizarre and at times difficult to watch.

They are trying to fuck Stipe and never give him opportunity to fight for title ever again

LHW and HW can afford to be 'hold up' for 1 fight.

They have 2 names with any relevance in term of contender Gus and Cain they both can take a fight before the tittle since they have activity issues.

I don't see a problem here. And I doubt they will create any interim belts.

Jones is out. Gus could use another victory. Cain needs one even more and has to prove he is active again.

Werdum could be an argument. But he got KO'd by Stipe in one round.

So if the timing was ever suitable for a champ vs champ fight then it is now at HW/LHW.

The same faces have been around for a while battling it out for the belt. This is a new match up and it is exciting.

How is short term, LHW is fucked and HW aint far behind. Cormier vs Miocic is a fantastic matchup. Only in a shithole like this will you see someone criticize it

they are struggling for attention and PPV buys...whats the solution? superfights!

Hope DC wins, that would cement Jones' status as GOAT and realistically make him hw champ without ever having fought at hw.

It will sell more PPVs than a card hosting Stipe vs. Werdum II & DC vs. Gus II

Not sure the problem

I think DC's retirement plans play into this decision.

Showbiz is all just short term solutions one after the other. You gotta just blow whatever wad you have while you have it or the opportunity passes and you have financial blue balls

If they dont do this now dc will get old or stipe will lose the belt. If they made francis fight someone else before he fought stipe he might lose and then its impossible to hype the fight

When they keep coming up with a short term plan, it kinda becomes long term doesn't it?

By the time Stipe vs. DC happens, another good potential fight will emerge, and again and again... It was always like this in UFC

We are getting an amazing fight and haters still hating haha.

OMG UFC cards are shit and watered down!
OMG There are no draws only Conor who doesn't fight.
OMG the UFC doesn't promote its champs.

Agreed. Typically, in "normally competitive" divisions, a fight like this would hold up two divisions and it would suck, seeing how champs fight only once or at most twice a year (another favorite pet peeve of mine).

However, it's exactly as you said, um, what else is in HW or LHW for us to get excited about? Anyone here actually think Ngannou, JDS or Overeem would fare better in another fight against Stipe this year? And Cain, if he ever gets healthy, yes, that would be a good fight but then you're in the same situation as he will hold up the division for another 2 years sitting out with another injury. As for LHW, it's even worse, everyone knows DC is a level above everyone else... except Jones, who is a level above him and will fight once every year or two between suspensions and legal problems.

So yeah, Cormier vs. Miocic is with little doubt, the best thing for both these divisions because any other fight, no one gives a shit about.
