Guy is fighting again on the 8th of february at 49 years old with a record of 65-9. Even Hopkins retarded and he aged a lot better than Roy Jones did

This will be Roy's last fight, he says. I believe that it will be this time. He's fighting in his hometown and wants to end it where it all began for him. Initially he was going to do a 5 fight farewell tour but he's since changed his mind, fortunately.

Edit. Change "retarded" to "retired" for Hopkins, dude.

they always say that

Guys that are so disciplined with physical training but neglect the mental game confuse me. Nobody in their right mind should be telling Roy to fight anymore because he is clearly slipping mentally already. The money or lack of it means he must have some desperate people hanging on to the gravy train still but the well is running dry. The guy needs help but Im unsure if his pride will allow him to get it.

God I hope this is his last fight. Hope its a real low level opponent, although even someone like that could KO him at this point.

Didn't he say that the Anderson Silva fight is basically done, just waiting on DFW to sign off on it?

It was reported yesterday that both were in talks (Roy & Anderson). However, the major sticking point would be that Silva is still under contract with the UFC (not sure how many fights he has left) and most importantly his second failed drug test. We'll know next month what USADA plans to do with him (facing a 2 or potentially a 4 year ban). Silva hasn't boxed since 2005 and would need to renew his license. I expect USADA's verdict will see to it that he won't be able to fight in say Vegas against Roy anytime soon. The third problem is that Dana hasn't approved this fight for Silva. He could cut Silva loose from his UFC contract if USADA bans him for 2 years, he definitely would if they ban him for 4 years, but he'd still be facing a legitimate issue in getting re-licensed as a pro boxer in a state where a Jones-Silva boxing match would make the most revenue.

I don't believe we'll see this fight. It was supposed to happen forever ago and if Roy sticks to his word his last time in the ring will be in a couple weeks. If he decides to "unretire" and fight Silva then those other issues still remain as hurdles that they'd have to work around. Unfortunately, they could be worked around quite easily if the UFC cuts Silva loose assuming he gets the ban hammer.

He should fight Forrest Griffin, as he repects his hands.

LOL. I saw moz talking to someone not long ago with a Forrest Griffin avatar. Was that the real Forrest that posts here on Sherdog? I know that well known MMA fighters have posted here before and over at the UG on more than one occasion. If that's actually Forrest then that's pretty cool.

But should there be an age limit in boxing? Because no one is going to convince these old time greats to stop, it's their passion and love, they have been doing this sense being a little kid. So if they won't stop maybe we need to stop them, using age limits and stronger medical rules, using head and brain trauma, using the knockouts they suffer early in their careers and setting up retirement programs and Medical insurance programs, for their futures, also setting up mandatory schooling, learning trade and getting degrees, but until then they won't stop, even if they get seriously hurt and brain damage.

Iff their managers care for them so much, why not set up mandatory Schooling and a retirement plan and medical insurance, in their contracts, hell the big Networks like HBO and Showtime can do the same with their fight contracts, setting up programs for insurance and retirement, so they don't have to pay for their big medical bills after their fights, just deduct it from their payroll from them like we do. At least it's something, even if their contracts only last a couple of years, they won't be spending most of their money on medical bills and would be going to College and finishing High School and getting degrees, but this is to easy I guess and don't hold your breath, because it probably will never happen anyway.

He probably is. But not without some cruiserweight belt around his waist.

Everytime Roy fights it will be his last fight (in that particular state).

That is quite a story

Wow

Why did they let Ali fight at that point?

I understand there was $$$ involved, but then there is such a thing as a boxing license

If you read between the lines, I think he's saying it's his last fight in his hometown.

Or in other words, wolf tickets.

a lot of money, the docs overlooked Ali's "slight missing of the nose" on a medical test of touching forefinger to nose. The crazy thing is, Ali, being the great showman that he was, had people believing he could actually do it. my stepdad and his muslim friend believed he could do it, we all sat silently as ali took that beating, it was a sad night, I cried. Still, Ali was already banned from fighting in NY after the Shavers fight and after Holmes he was banned in the USA which at least shows people cared enough to stop him. No one stops most of these guys.
