Is Poirier one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC?

MMA media don't give nearly enough love to the fighters that have their ups and downs but keep grinding and earn their moment through blood, sweat and tears.

It's all about the extremely dominant fighters who steamroll anyone they come up against for years.

Personally I find the latter to be the better story.

Yea his streak of names is really impressive

He's properly rated. He's behind Tony no doubt. And in no way, shape or form did he "outclass" Max. Dustin panic wrestled at one point. And for the last minute and a half of the fight, he wall and stalled. Don't get me wrong, it was smart.

But he didn't outclass the guy from a lighter weight, Max Holloway, by ducking his head and holding on for dear life to end the fight.
He was clearly the better fighter. He got rocked once but he controlled the fight and was a much sharper striker without question. Wasn't a particularly hard fought win, he beat max up pretty badly.

And Dustin is from that lighter weight too

Tbh I didn't really take his lw run too seriously until recently after watching him flounder as a gatekeeper for so long at FW, but the way he came back and kept the fight competitive in the later rounds tonight was seriously inpressive. I still dont think hes really got anything for ferg or khabib, but I also dont think of him as just a gatekeeper any more. Incredible performance.

Hit a nerve lol Aldo ain’t getting a title shot anytime soon
Been there done that. He's currently taking out all of Max's challengers and is ready to ride off into the sunset.

"A" featherweight or the featherweight champion. Are you familiar with the championship system ?
Absolutely. Max is of course the FW champ who just lost a LW fight.

(But I will admit I have no idea how the interim championship system works. Are both Tony and Dustin now co- champions?)

No, been following him for a long time especially since he is from LA. He is not underrated most have always known him to have good hands, a win over Max is nice but Max came up to fight him and I also can't take anyone in that weight-class seriously that hasn't fought Tony or Khabib.

Lol anybody who thinks he didn't win doesn't know how to score fights. And I got mad love for Max.

I don't know how anybody could say his chin is trash. He just went toe to toe wiith Gaethje and won not long ago.

I truly believe the clip behind the ear from Conor cast shade on Dustin for years. I think that's where it all comes from. That can happened to anybody. Serra did it to GSP.
And the punch Johnson got him with would’ve put anyone out I think. It was a lightning quick counter

Tony got stripped a long time ago. That time he tripped on a wire.

Historically lighter weight champ usually di pretty good at higher weight classes, so it's not s knock on Dustin to have beaten "a" FW who is the champ.

Dude is Great.. To come back from those bad losses to Conor, and Johnson and put together this kind of run against this level of competition.

Fucking Stud..

Did Colby also trip on something? He seemed to get stripped pretty quick.

And I certainly wasn't knocking Dustin. That wall and stall to end the fight was really smart. As was pulling out of the Diaz fight last December.

Dustin has a high fight IQ no doubt.

You can look at the thread before the fight, the poll was saying some 80% percent were going for Max in this one. Dustin had some amazing fights throughout his career, hats off to him and so glad that he won.

He's underrated because he is not a flashy risk taking specialist. He beats people with basics, power, and pressure.

He's like an Al Iaquinta, Kamaru Usman, Chris Weidman type fighter.
(I know Weidman and Usman are wrestlers, but they are effective and don't take risks)
