everyone knows trinidad wrecked fernando, he never EVER recovered from the beating he took in that fight; it established his legend as a great fighter/tough fighter, but it also began his downward spiral..

an oscar stepped in to fight vargas, was vargas still dangerous and a legit guy at that weight; of course, was he close to his prime HELL NO. An that played a part in oscar picking him when he did, not that it takes away from his win; fernando gave a huge effort and hated to lose that.

but is this the same spot cotto is in where he is on the decline and not the beast he used to be; an pac/roach pick him because they know his best days phys/mentally are behind him, an as good and tough and skilled and exp he is. He is in fact damaged goods...

thoughts/opinions

I'm not convinced that Cotto's best days are behind him. I'm giving him a really good chance to stop Pacquiao, and I think he'd beat Mosley a second time if they fought again, beat Margarito in a rematch, and beat Clottey again.

It'll be interesting though. Cotto has already started training camp and it will be 15 weeks long. He has a chip on his shoulder with everyone saying he is finished and already talking about a Mayweather vs Pacquiao superfight next year. Pacquiao is still filming his Filipino super hero movie and doesn't start training for a month or so, and Pacquiao is doing half of his training in the Bahamas or Canada, then going to LA for two weeks, and the last week in Vegas. I wonder how that will affect him.

The Margarito victory over Cotto is tarnished.
Vargas is not in Cottos' league and I really doubt that Cotto is damaged goods

Cotto & Pacquiao should be a very even fight which I give the edge to Pacman.

Only 2 weeks in LA?
Pacman, plz dont get ahead of yourself, play movies later. will be a waste

He can't do a full camp in LA, or anywhere in America, or else the IRS will tax him hundreds of thousands of dollars. It has to do with some rule where he can't spend more than 183 days in one year in a country (other than the Philippines) without paying some fee.

I disagree cotto is still relativity young at 28 , and is still one of the best fighters in the world between 135 and 154

he was just on a wake of hype and floyd hate , being heralded as the fighter who'd destroy PBF before the margarito fight

lol cotto is far from shot! his problem is his gas tank. He also suffered some bad cuts. Pacman has been in more wars than Cotto.

Almost all of pacmans early fights were wars go watch his fights when he was 17 years old he was taking some heavy punches.

Cotto to me is a real threat becuase pacman is smaller and cotto will have the power on him.

Cotto looks bad against a guy it's impossible to look good against, and suddenly a lot of people are saying "shot." I don't mean anyone in this thread, I mean period. It's really lame. He's at the highest level of the game, in arguably the deepest division. Sure it may seem like at this point he's always a bridesmaid, but who fuckin' cares?

That said, I still think he loses to Pac unless he Fights the perfect Fight. Come in low behind that power-jab, and hit Manny in the body, A LOT. Hell even bust up his hips and fuck with his head that way, then move laterally and repeat. And watch for uppercuts, because if Roach is half the strategist he seems to be, that's the punch they're working on the most in Camp for Pac.

well you obviously dont watch that much boxing, after a fighter takes ahuge beating some times there not the same

That's not a majority happening either, though. It happens sometimes, not every time.

This is true and it sucks. Camp will be held in either the Phillipines or Mexico, so much for all the plans we had. He won't be at wildcard til' 3 weeks before the fight, but will come by before that, but just briefly. I was pretty upset because I put on about 25 lbs. to have more weight to cut for the weight cutting competition, but word is we are still gonna have one, but I don't think it will be the same. I started eating healthier and getting back in shape for camp first week of September, and then this hit us like a ton of bricks.

Any words on who's training Cotto?

P.S. I blew it with the Laker girl.............

Cotto might just be the best "shot" fighter I've ever seen.

I'm kinda going back and forth on who I think is gonna win. Pacman is awesome, but its hard to put into perspective just how awesome he is given the circumstances of his last couple fights (weight, whatever Hatton's nonsensical excuses are etc...). Cotto can not only apply lots of pressure, but he can box really well when he wants. Manny will likely have plenty of chances tho to land some straight shots down the middle. Just can't tell if that will be the story of the night or if Cotto will be able to wear him down.

Leaning slightly towards Manny

Not if Cotto switches Southpaw, which he's better at than given credit for.

Is it true that Cotto is naturally a southpaw bit fights orthadox, heard it before and looking at his fights it would appear this could be true!
Heard the same about Oscar.

What the fuck is this shit, King?

I logged in to make a post, started typing out reply to a thread, hit the submit button, and it told me to log on again. I did that and then this shit came up. I did as it asked, went back, and then went through the process again. Same shit. I wouldn't give two shits about that normally, but for once on this site lately, I actually took the time to make out a long reply to something and put some thought into it.

Does this site really suck that badly or what?

Well my Mother would say "That's what you get for thinking." But I don't know what that is. I'll put in the word to the tech Admin.

Winky Wright is a right handed and uses the southpaw stance. This is actually more common than you think. Well, at least in the gym I used train at. My trainer tried to mold fighters by having the their dominant hand as their lead hand. It make sense. You'll have a more stiff jab and better hook (why not have your strongest hand deliver the most impact power from the shorter distance?). He tried it on me initially because my right hand sucked and my jab was weak, but I didn't feel comfortable with the stance. I just took my time during training to put more emphasis on right hand everyday and implemented a lot of resistance band/calisthenic training.

By the end, I enjoying my jab, hook off the jab combination just as much as my straight left.

I can see the advantages of it but it might not suit everyone.
Great for a fighter who relies on his jab

i just posed the question, as it seems like pac/roach are picking their spots; cotto seesm to be a lil less than he was about three fights ago, an i figure they think this is the best time to go get him. Tech i haven't seen him look worse, but physically he has really been through the ringer, even in the fights he has won he has taken huge shots from tough opp (judah/clottey/margarito); so maybe roach thinks cotto is ready to go, esp if facing a legit puncher w/dynamic speed and exp.

i think cotto can be a force still; but i think as competitive as the div is and him constantly being in tough, might have caused him to lose a step or half step which is all pac needs
