So my PC crashed a few days ago and when I restarted it I got all these weird lines going across the login screen, when I logged in it would either blue screen or black screen. I can run it in safe mode and when I uninstall all amd drivers I can launch in normal without any problems but if I install ANY (even old ones) I get the same problem. The GPU's fans are spinning and the vga cable is connected through it yet I think my PC is running off the integrated graphics card if that's possible. I'm sure this is related to the crimson drivers slowing the fan speed and eventually frying my 7870 but idk. Any ideas? I can't play any games, they simply won't launch. For example I get a "Failed to create graphics context" error if I try launch battlenet

If your hdmi cable is plugged into a card, it's using that card for output.
Have you tried the Clean Uninstall software and they reinstalling your drivers?

VGA* (if it makes any difference) Yeah I used the clean uninstall software and reinstalled and the exact same thing happens when I install the drivers.

Is your card being recognized in device manager because it's not recognizing it in dxdiag. Did you update drivers, bios, etc lately.
is your 7870 a 1gb version?

Yeah doesn't display there either and no I didn't update anything recently. My problem falls in line with a lot of others online and it's caused by the crimson drivers malfunctioning and lowering fan speed causing the gpu to overheat, this must have been going on for the past month or 2 - I should have actually checked hwmonitor. What's weird to me is the GPU's fans are spinning and the VGA is connected through that and my monitor is displaying yet it can't detect the 7870 and is using the integrated graphics card.

It's not using your integrated card unless you have the cable plugged into the on board port.

I see, makes sense.

AMD's auto detection software for drivers detects it funnily enough

Do you have another slot to test the card in? Different computer? Etc
Nah, I think I've accepted that it's dead lol. I'll be ordering a new one soon although it's gonna suck not playing games for a couple weeks. cheers for responding to the thread :)

What brand of card did you have btw, I'm running a 7870 also.
I know it would suck for awhile, but if I was in your situation I'd pick up a 750ti. When the next gen drops, ebay the 750ti and pick up a new one. You should be able to get at least $60 back on it and they can be picked up new for $100 if you watch.

Yeah that would be the best way to test it at this point

If the Microsoft drivers work but the AMD drivers don't I'd think it could be a few different things. I'd see what the event logs say too.

Sapphire is the brand, I think my brothers going to be ordering a new graphics card soon so I'll probably ask him for his 970 gtx, I'm just wondering if it's going to bottleneck badly with a amd fx 8320 3.5ghz

Got a new GPU, geforce 470 - works fine. Should hold me over until I get a goodun.
