Is MMA the only sport with fans who don’t understand the concept of aging?

It’s not all the fans, but so many just seem totally oblivious to the whole idea of aging.

These guys will bring up a Jon Jones fight from 2014 and act like that’s the proof Gane is going to get destroyed.

These same types were salivating for 40 year old GSP to come out of retirement to get demolished by either Khabib or Usman.

There are still some people who talk like Rockhold could beat Periera because “his top game bro” lol

What’s up with this? It isn’t a thing in other sports. When Jordan came back to play for the Wizards, no one thought “OHHH they got MJ, they’re gonna take the title!” But MMA fans would’ve been all in on that, posting highlights from 16 years earlier saying “Nobody can stop this” etc

I mean, most sports are like that. The greats will always be the favorite going into every fight until there is ample evidence otherwise.

Nah, it's more that people just use a fighter's age however it fits their narrative.

Moment you're no longer winning it has to be an age issue and can't simply be that others might've caught up to you, you regressed due to no longer working as hard, or hell just always had these bad tendencies. Doesn't matter if you're only in your early 30s.

Because the UFC purposely markets the old dudes as if they are still in their prime to boost the popularity of whoever just destroyed said old person.

Even if a win over them is basically meaningless, UFC will use the name value of the old person until their name means nothing.

Because you can still be elite level at that age. But that requires training at an elite level and not just coming back after years of doing nothing and playing catch up. Big difference. Better to look at boxing for examples around that age, they are still training and fighting at an elite level. You have PAC, Mayweather, B-Hop, Donaire, Rigo, Beterbeiv, GGG, Durant, etc all fighting at an elite level at an older age. MMA doesn't have the same examples since it's too new and most retire early or try and come back only for a paycheck and it's obvious that they haven't been really training. So it's nothing like how it is in boxing. Only DC, Romero, Couture, Hendo in mma but those are in the heavier weights. In boxing there are many examples in the lower weights.

Was it over for Randy when LHW was done? Nope, dude went up and whooped Tim Sylvias ass for five rounds. It has happened before. Jones is ready. Jones wouldn't do this to get shadow realm'ed on the big stage for the fuck of it. Makes no sense at all. He's trolling yall with these slow ass videos. Come fight night, Jones will be ready and is going to prove why is the UFC goat.

There are some mma fans that think guys like Tony and Hooker can turn it around with a solid camp and game plan.

Yeah, tons of people blame age for fighters losing meanwhile the fighter shows up looking like a soft dough ball and obviously simply hasn't worked all that hard.

Skill, 'ringsmanship,' etc... carry highly skilled older fighters well past the point that their counterparts in other sports are able to easily achieve.

Sometimes we forget that said point has its limits.

That said, we have a lot of examples of older guys winning/defending titles even in their late 30s.

As long as fans buy ppv's and tickets, old fighters will always be at the top of the card. Who cares about someone w/o a great record?

If your test drops, your body but also your workrate, energy and recovery might go too. But I agree 50% also has to do with fighters dropping off after the 10 year mark. People get stuck in their ways and they do not retain new knowledge as well. Old pathways have been built and they are hard to break.
