Is MMA in a way a team sport now?

A fighter doesn't train himself.

Gotta spar with people. The heavy bag doesn't move around and try to hit you back.

Rollin' around on the floor by ones self doesn't improve one's jitz.

A cornerman sees things from an outside perspective and can instruct the fighter how to adjust.

So, there's definitely a team aspect to it. Ever notice how sometimes fighters speak in the third person and say 'we' when talking about themselves or their performance?

Mma has always been and will always be a team sport. Every time a fighter gets in the ring/cage he is utilizing the skills that he developed fighting his teammates day in and day out. Also you must take into account a fighters corner. His corner is there to support and lend strategy. Its safe to say many fighters have salvaged fights they were losing do to their ability to work with their corner who can see things in the fight that the fighter might be able to see.

Training and sport are two different things. Cornering hardly makes it a team sport. Next thing people will try to say is football is an individual sport.

I guess people on this messageboard aren't posting their individual opinions, someone taught them how to get on the interent, special thanks to Ms. Brown, the English teacher, and Bob who told you at the bar that BJ Penn is the GOAT.

Calling an MMA fight a team sport is just absurd.

Every sport has people that help them train, but it's 1v1 in the cage

There's a team aspect with cornermen, coaches, and sparring partners but at the end of the day it is 1 on 1 competition in a cage where the better guy wins.

It's starting to shape up that way even more now with fighters choosing not to fight teammates and what not.

IMO the UFC should put a clause in their contract, saying if fighter A is on the same team as fighter B, then fighter A becomes champion, and fighter B wins his way to the top, they should have to fight each other. No excuses.

Not a team sport at all, not even like baseball where the team benefits from each individual athletes opportunity to shine... MMA is singular, mano-a-mano

NOT a bad idea! fighters would be really pissed though not sure if they can get all of them to sign something like that which may lead to the first ever UFC Lockout (this is a joke I do not actually believe this)
