has a referee as one of the 'analysts' for their commentary team?

NFL does this a lot, though it's former heads of officiating

Mike Pereira was a ref who is now a analyst on FOX
Ron Maclean from Hockey Night in Canada is also a referee

I don't think having a referee in this position suggests anything about MMA. Smart, motivated, involved people hang around and usually have a purpose.

Refs, judges and analysts seem to go hand in hand.

And Mike Carey does the same for CBS.... and i seriously thinkhe has brain damage. He is awful.

BJM already retired as a ref in the US, he said it would be a conflict of interest.

Nothing wrong with retired refs going into commentary. He's not very good at it, but there's nothing wrong.

Would be awesome to have Cecil Peoples do commentary.
