Is Mark Hunt the Kamala of MMA, does he need a handler?

whats crazy about kamala is he went to literally every wrestling promotion around wwe, wcw, nwa, wccw, japan, mexico, canada, memphis, florida, jcp and drew huge money. He has probably drawn more money than any ufc fighter ever. granted this was back in the 80's when people thought wrestling was real and actually bought into the fact that they pulled this guy straight from the jungles of africa. dude sold out 60,000 seat texas stadium when he wrestled the von erichs in wccw sold out every arena wrestling hogan in the wwf, sold out every arena wrestling lawler in memphis, dusty in florida, sting in wcw. its crazy to think about how succesfull this dude was

dude lived his gimmick to the max. acted like he had never seen people before and shit. dude lived his gimmick

That's a cool story, and I actually mean that, but it's still pretty weird comparing pro wrestling with MMA.

Yeah and now the dude iliving in poverty on disability payments. Confined to a wheelchair because he had both his legs amputated due to diabetes. This is what happens when there are no unions and the organizations give you no retirement benefits. Despite selling out arenas for years wrestling Hulk Hogan he only got paid like 1/20th of what Hogan made. You would think Vince McMahon would appreciate his contributions and help him out but I guess not.

y do brits aussieand kiwi guys love to say alowmait

In recent years it's actually started to combine with more modern sayings. I frequently start the day with "alowmait, ows it ang'in?" (h's omitted).

I used to collect baseball cards with a few friends. One of them wasn't into baseball cards but he would collect WWF (I think it was back then) cards. On the back of Kamala's, in like the fun fact section, I'm pretty sure it was him because I didn't watch WWF and the fun fact was so odd. It was:

Did you know when he's not wrestling, Kamala sells insurance?

The handler Mark Hunt needs:

As a foreigner walking around Vegas last week, I had been to pretty much every European attraction they were referencing with their themed hotel/casinos. I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing.

The WWF had a "Savage" character that had a "handler"? Unbelievable.

indeed but it can be argued that he also didnt save his money properly, a common occurence with most wrestlers at the time. and while he may have mad 1/20th of what hogan made that 1/20th was still very good money. multiple sources have confirmed working with hogan for an extended period of time (3 months, 6 months) left you with at least a high six figure payoff possibly 7 figures. i do know specifically from reading bret harts book that kamala made 200,000 for a single event when him and hogan sold out a house show in toronto that drew 76,000 people. Hart talked about how James Harris ( Kamala) had never seen that kind of money before and how estatic he was and how it showed bret how much money a maineventer in wwe could make. But this was also at a time when WWE was at one of its highest points. They were running an A show usually headlined Hogan and whoever he was working with a B Show usually headlinged by the IC champ at the time and a C Show usually headlined by the tag champs and were selling them all out. Buisness was just ridiculous at the time. and really the only other time that business was THAT hot was either in the 70's with bruno or the late 90's during the monday night wars when wrestling became pop culture.

And dude made absolutely NO money. IIRC there was a PPV where he made $1500 while his opponent made over a million. Just watched a documentary on him, he's had both legs amputated, he was in bad shape and didn't have a pot to piss in except what his life AFTER wrestling provided. IIRC he makes furniture.

He didn't make 1/20th of what Hogan made, he made much less. It wasn't a matter of him spending it, he just didn't make it and didn't know that the pennies he made wasn't the norm.

Melvin having a handler does not look intimidating or cool, it actually looks kinda stupid and laughable.

lol kamala, brings back memories.

Reminds me of the toy wrestler I had of him when I was a kid even though I watched very little wrestling in those days. I wouldn't have even been able to guess his name, thank you TS for the throwback!
