Is Maia still getting snubbed because of ONE terrible title fight some years ago against Anderson?

I think he is. Dana and co. have a funny memory about certain things. They are old school like that. They remember some things done for them longer than they need to, and they remember some other things longer than they need to. But does anybody else get the feeling that Maia is STILL being kept on the outs because that one absolutely horrible fight against Anderson? That was a fight in a new market I believe, and it was, in fact, really bad. But dude has been crushing lately. Basically beat Magny like a rookie for bell to bell. Has a great streak going. I know I'm over Maia and Andy having a weird dance off; is Dana and the UFC?

You could give any top-5 Welterweight a title shot and it would make sense.

It has nothing to do with Maia's past performance. The division is just stacked.

he lost two straight not too long ago and started flopping on his back against La Flare, it was pathetic, big John even deducted a point.

He would be butt scooting like crazy if he fought Lawler

Welterweight is a stacked division, you have to really get an impressive streak going to get a shot. Unless you're Conor McGregor, then you just have to defeat an inflated lightweight (easier said than done).

Nope, it's because he speaks broken-ish English, isn't physically attractive, doesn't talk smack and isn't a guy that fits the UFC's mould of "Superstar".

The day has come where Dana is literally Vince McMahon. This is a sad time.

I think Anderson rightfully got most of the blame for that. Imo He wold be a contender at this point if he had beaten Shields or Rory. I think the Rory fight moved him back a bit, but he's still probably not more than 2 away if he wins impressively.

Maybe. I think that it's more likely that they're just trying to build up younger/newer potential stars, while at the same time making sure that Maia doesn't pick them all off (I mean, he chewed through Magny, who has otherwise been on a tear).

At the same time, it's not like facing Matt Brown is the same as being kept on the outs. It's pretty crowded at the top at WW. And Maia is right in the mix. If they really wanted to derail him, they'd throw Rory back at him.

Did you even watch the fight? he brought the fight to Silva in last few rounds....

and I am not even a Maia fan

To be fair, he got a point deducted for flopping against Laflare

It could be because so far on his current win streak he has one win against a borderline top 10 in Magny. and his next fight is easily the most favorable matchup in the top 10.

I'd like to see him fight for a title too, but quality of opposition matters more than quantity.

He needs Lombard muscles and blonde hair.

UFC hates grapplers with meh standup.

They try to make grapplers fight a billion fights until they absolutely have to give em a title shot.

They learned this lately since shields, maia, leites rtc....this is why they dont want ben askren

His streak doesn't have that signature win to get a title shot. The Magny win is good now, in retrospect. But if he beats brown, he still wont have that great win for a shot at the title. He'll need someone like Woodley after that.

I like Maia.

I'm not sure where new surge is coming from on this forum.
He lost to top guys in his division such as Rory and Shields. He looked terrible down the stretch against Rory.

Why is everyone calling for a title shot for him all of a sudden? Because he beat some fringe guys and looked good doing it? He's always been like that.
Don't forget he started in the UFC at MW at 5-0, all by submission.
He has always had mixed results against the best; go back and watch his fight with Munoz.

Give him Condit. If he wins, then fine, title shot.

He was pretty much written off after the Rory and Yakovlev(?) fights.

Safe to say Maia is still dangerous and still elite, he destroyed Magny and Gunnar, the winner of him vs Brown should be fighting the winner of Lawler vs Wonderboy but UFC matchmaking just can't do logic.

Or fat Bantamweights at 145 with no proper camp
