I tend to grade movies on the harsher side. Nearly every time I have to rate LOTR I find myself giving each one of them a 10. I probably have other movies I would call my favourite over this but in terms of rating I can't think of anything that would bring it down to a 9. I cannot think of any other movie I would give a 10 to.

It follows the books but streamlines it
It uses succesful CGI that still holds up
Excelent costumes and practical effects
Covers missing segments in extended cuts
Ideal casting
It defined every actor's career
Creates a full realised world
Digestable for mainstream but contains many nods to readers

Probably the only thing I can think to be critical was the flamboyant laughing at the end which was just a bit odd. The ending itself was also a bit long but after 3 trilogies why wouldn't it be? The scourging of the Shire would have made the whole thing pointlessly longer.

LOTR are pretty great but I prefer the original theatrical versions to the extended editions.

There's a lot of shit in there that you just don't need and I find myself skipping through.

The mouth of sauron tho, that's the shit and I wish they put that in originally

You'd be the first one to turn tail and run from Smaug the great and terrible.

I love LOTR, some of my favorite movies. I would add Jurassic Park and Princess Bride to the perfect movie list. Also Predator and Comando while not cinematic masterpieces are perfect action movies in my opinion.

Shawshank, Matrix 1, Godfather 1 were perfect. LOTR was a fun movie on books I read as a Teen that had a great score and visuals for time.

Paddington 2 was better

What's perfect about LOTR flicks is how much attention was paid to combining source material and it's history with modern production. It's a GOAT story and the flicks feel like a continuos series of good production decisions. The OG animated film is practically smashed into the trilogy. If you grew up around LOTR, almost everything on screen was a call back, a shout out or a nod to what people did, saw or imagined about the story outside the pages of the books.

The only issue is that its boring.

Haha, jk, or maybe not. You've just inspired me to give it another go.

The two towers one is great. That fucking beginning alone.

Yes . Don't even consider it a trilogy...just one amazing 10 hour festival for the eyes and imagination

The Fellowship was pretty good but the other 2 not so much.

The problem I have is the drawn out battle scenes that are pretty cliche. Outside of the battle scenes I really enjoy the movies

I believe PJ stayed in NZ and filmed all three together to create that effect. Beautiful films.
