It sounds unfair, khabib should of wait after the Volkanovski fight to leave, its not right to do it before islam biggest challenge, it might play a psychological effect on the fight...

No. Khabib has accomplished enough in fighting and wants to venture off and be more of a family man. It’ll be good for Islam to establish a legacy that won’t be 100% tied to Khabib anyway. There’s plenty of time to forge his own path. I’m sure it was very beneficial to have Khabib in his corner and in training but Islam will be fine without him.

I agree that it will factor in. From the training footage available it's nothing like the training/coaching that Khabib was doing. They will also not have Khabib's fight IQ to analyze the things going on during the fight in real time. Khabib also put a lot more pressure and intensity into their training sessions and currently it seems like they are just going through the motions. Javier just comes around at the end a few weeks right before the fight and he's not a grappling expert, that was Khabib. Seems like Khabib works both the physical and mental aspects of fighting and Islam's current training doesn't seem anything like the training he was doing when Khabib was the coach.

It takes like 20 hours to fly from Russia to AU

Not that he couldn't have done it but if it were in UAE he probably would've been there

Built in excuse for Islam fans?

Islam is trying to challenge himself more by not having Khabib in his corner. Otherwise, MMA has become too easy for him.

Having Khabib in your corner is like bringing a loaded gun into the octagon. Look at Belal Muhammad last fight, he looked like Ngannou all of a sudden.

This is a silly narrative.

Khabibs been through an awful lot the last 5-6 years. After such an overstimulating period it's quite understandable how one would be done. He retired, stuck around as an MMA figure for another year or 2 then decided he was done done. I don't understand how one could be confused about that or take that as a slight against Islam. Pretty straightforward.

Also Islam might want to establish his own identity. I hate referencing Rocky 5 as an example of anything but could be a situation like that where Islam realizes people see him as a continuation of a recently retired fighters legacy and he wants to build his own name. Hes champ already regardless of how much more difficult an opponent Volk is opposed to Charles.

Khabib was there when Islam won the LW title against Oliveira

Volk is child's play

It's possible that Khabib was just that confident that his guys would be alright without him.
